Locking of the NS political parties thread?

While I understand that the moderators frown upon copycat threads, in the style of "ask a ..." I fail to see the reason for locking a thread wherein the idea is to promote the discussion of political ideals and the generation of political groupings amongst NS generalites. http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=418608

I recognize that some of the parties proposed are pretty spammish, but others are serious attempts atconstructing a party based upon a political ideal.

The parties generated to date are:

* Cult of TInk Party
* Democratic Socialist Party
* Freedom and Progress Party
* Goths, Hippies, and Others Against Stereotyping Types Party
* Mole and Other Borrowing Rodents Alliance
* NS Classic Liberals
* NS Libertarian Party
* ProMonkians Politicised Party Campagning For The Introduction Of Reproductive Red Tape
* Revolutionary Trotskyist Party
* Troon's Political Party
* United Democratic Communist Party

Of which 7 can be described as truly political, whilst only 4 are social or spam style proposals (Sorry Moleland, but your party really is not a serious political view, weird though it is.)

Could someone explain why this thread was locked?

Edit: I have seen Kat's post regarding 'trend threads' but how does discussing political ideas in a political forum constitute a trend? I could accept the movement of any spam threads to the jolt spam forum, which would seem reasonable, but to simply lock the thread wherein people can coment on their parties developments is a little contrary to the intention of NS, which is to promote political thoight and discussion as I understand it.

This is under discussion by the mods.

Any results to the discussion yet? I know that we have gone ahead and started another thread to replace this locked one, but I am concerned that the message delivered by locking the first thread may be dissuading people from forming genuine political parties to compete the forthcoming NS election.

If I may allowed to voice my opinion...

I feel that the closure of the thread is a wierd decision. After all, NationStates is all about politics. That was how Max Barry made the game, and he has said so himself on numerous different occations. The people who use the forums here in NationStates does have strong political opinions (naturally, as this is a game with politics heavily involved as mentioned above), and this idea of creating a political party is, in my point of view, completely within the original ideas that Mr. Barry had when he created NationStates two / three years ago. Frankly, I'm surprised that this idea hasn't come up untill now.

Allowing the players of NationStates to create political parties and do what politicians do (speaking crazy lies, lobbying for their causes, etc) in the forums seems, at least to me, to be well within the spirit of NationStates, and therefore it should be legal. I am therefore curious as to why this thead was closed. In my opinion, any spam should be removed and the thread should be allowed to remain alive, albeit without the spam threads and posts (if there are any, I'm not rally sure). If one of the moderators, who do an outstanding job keeping the forums playable, could answer me why the thread was closed, then I would be most grateful.

The problem with the original thread was not the idea of Political Parties, but rather the implicit invitation in the starter post to create multiple copycat and spam threads. Given that, I'd like a link to the replacement thread, if you don't mind. The idea of NS political parties is a fine one. It's all in how it's implemented.

Point of order: Many NS Mods are involved in the scholastic end-of-year process, what with exams, papers, graduations, travel, and whatnot. Those of us not in or teaching school have other similar demands. It's a busy RL time for us, and the regular thread moves, flamers, griefers and nation revivals still have to get dealt with. It's tough for several of us to get together and hash out philosophical questions like this, and post a quick decision. We appreciate your understanding.

Sorry for the delay in answering (RL got in the way)

The replacement thread is http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=419066

We, or at least I, fully understand the end of educational year stuff (been there, done that, and am still doing it but with my academic year being the calendar year now. Christmas studying is fun huh.)

Minor edits to the first post (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=8861134&postcount=1), but it's reopened now.
