Plagiarism of Advertisements?

Is it possible for something to be done if another nation copies one of your advertisements almost exactly?

My recruitment nation goes around the feeders once a day leaving advertisements for my region, Coconut Island. Today, i went to the East Pacific to find that Old Straw Hat (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/90431/page=display_nation/nation=old_straw_hut) had left a advertisment for Desert Island that was exactly the same of one of my older ones (except for the Desert Island bit) and is very similar to my current one.

I know it is mine as the advertisement uses the description from our world factbook entry and talks about a msn space and a regional forum. Two things Desert Island does not have. We at Coconut Island have both, this is our msn space (://spaces.msn.com/members/coconutislandinfo) and here is our regional forum (http://s10.invisionfree.com/Coconut_Island/index.php?)

The only place the advertisement of old straw hat's that i saw was in the east pacific but that might be gone now as i had tried to get on here to ask but couldnt.

You'd want to put this in Moderation.

This is my current standard advertisement

Do you want your nation to be on a tropical island?
Do you want to be an active member of a small region?
Are you looking for a friendly region to join and discuss things?

If so, join COCONUT ISLAND.
Coconut Island is a remote paradise located in the East Pacific. It was discovered in 1804, by a crew of seamen after their ship was wrecked not far from the Island. With its gentle breezes, beautiful sun, crystal blue seas and hot sands people soon flooded to the Island - forming the Nations there today. Join the flood of nations, come to Coconut Island.
It is a place where people of all nationalities, political affiliations and activity come together to engage in politics and compete to win elections and see how they do on the economic rankings that are produced from this game.
We debate current political issues and also lively discussions about the best national animal and for us, the best tropical fruit.

If you want to find out more about the region go to the forum, there is a detailed history on there for guests and newcomers to read.
The regional forum is at http://s10.invisionfree.com/Coconut_Island/index.php?

In case you do not know how to move region;
1) Click on the THE WORLD down the left hand column
2) Type COCONUT ISLAND into the find region box near the bottom
3) Click on MOVE [Your Nation] TO COCONUT ISLAND

Do this and you are a part of the nations on Coconut Island.
If you decide to join, please register on the regional forum and endorse the UN delegate if you join the UN, the constitution of Coconut Island is on the forum and msn space. We hold elections on the UN delegate regularly.
Coconut Island’s website is http://spaces.msn.com/members/coconutislandinfo

The one that was used by desert island and is i believe still in their civil headquarters section is this;

Want your nation to be on a tropical island?
Want to be an active member of a small region?
If so, join DESERT ISLAND.

DESERT Island is a remote paradise located in the East Pacific. It was discovered in 1804, by a crew of seamen after their ship was wrecked not far from the Island. With its gentle breezes, beautiful sun and hot sands people soon flooded to the Island - forming the Nations there today.

It is a place where people of all nationalities, political affiliations and activity come together to engage in politics and compete to win elections and see how they do on the economic rankings that are produced from this game.

We debate current political issues and also lively discussions about the best national animal and for us, the best national (and tropical) fruit.

To join,
1) Click on the THE WORLD
2) Type DESERT ISLAND into the find region box
3) Click on MOVE [Your Nation] TO DESERT ISLAND

Do this and you are a part of the nations on Desert Island.

If you decide to join, please register on the regional forum and endorse the UN delegate if you join the UN, the constitution of Desert Island are on the forum and msn space.

The addresses for both the msn space and the regional forum can be found in our region's world factbook entry.

As you can see it is very similar, and they do not have a regional forum or msn space which i believe proves they copied mine.

This has happened to me before. Someone copied our recruitment telegrams. We just had our regional security agency RP them a message about the possible international consequences of their disrespectful actions and they apologized profusely and stopped.

I don't think it's illegal unless they are actually impersonating you. Until then it's just annoying. <--Not a mod though

Thanks, i sent them a telegram about 11 hours ago but have received no reply (may have sent them a telegram with my recruitment nation but have checked there too). I just wanted to know if anything else could be done other than me telegramming...

As a forum mod, my opinion in this Game matter is unofficial ... but I think this is more a matter of bad taste and Bad Form than a moderation action.

If somebody impersonates a nation or a region, there are potential long-term repercussions. If somebody steals a UN proposal and posts it as their own, it could become part of the game. Regional messageboard posts have no real longevity, especially in the feeders, so the concept of lasting harm is much reduced.

If you can't arrive at a polite solution on your own, that may indicate that the other player had malicious intent. That IS actionable under the rules of this game, and we'll act on it. Save your telegrams from him for future reference. In this case, though, it sounds like "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery". Work it out on your own if you can.
