ATTENTION:

Referral links that "help you out" in other games are

FORBIDDEN on NationStates

Posting referral link threads is a warnable offense, and repeated posting will get your nation DELETED. This refers to Cyber-war, Outwar, all other variants, and even such sites as Kevan.org (that dumbass zombie brain thing).

DO NOT POST THESE IN THREADS, SIGNATURES, WORLD FACTBOOK ENTRIES, OR AS NATIONAL MOTTOS.

they are spam...

using that theory, the links in all signatures are spam.

edit
let me rephrase... i understand random posts on the board being spam, but what about these "referral" links in signatures? would they be considered spam?

Max didn't arrange for this bandwidth to be a host for other people's advertising. Those sites also tend to have lots of popups and other annoyances, and we don't want the blame for that crap.

There is also the 'dishonesty' argument: "Click here for a great game!" "Ha-HA! you have increased my army!"

Regardless, it's a long standing rule that apparently hasn't been publicized enough, and I decided to make it VERY public today. Maybe it'll finally slow down.

the zombie thing as far as i could tell didn't have any type of popups or other annoyances... unless you consider reading that you got your brain eaten an annoyance.

I agree 100% with this. However, in my instance, the kevan.org link wasn't dishonest, i had put it as a link to the word unknown, which is who i credited for my quote in my sig. i just thought it'd be a little fun to spread the zombie thing indirectly.

i never knew of the rule until today (but then again, i haven't been here that long, a few scant months) but i think the regardless comment is a bit of a blanket excuse (we've always ate mass quantities of food, and then puked it back up to eat it again, so that's what you need to do mentality)
I consider them Spam...

i figured it'd be ok to discuss it here since the rule was pointed out here, but if you feel it needs to be in the Moderation section, i could either start a thread there or you guys could move this one there.

as far as the "I consider them Spam..." part, do you consider links to personal blogs and websites spam? How about links to images of some animation of someone drawing a stick figure?

I must ask this as well. Does a link to my corprate website count? I posted this question in the mod forum about a month ago and no mod answered. If it's spam, I want to know so i can remove it.

I'd really like someone to answer my question. It will clear up concern many probably have.

Referral links give some tangible benefit to the person who posted the link for everyone that clicks it, more if they sign up for whatever service it is. Your link wouldn't load, so I couldn't tell what was at the other end. I'd bet it's fine, though. Referral links usually have some sort of associated number or ID.

See the new One-Stop Rules Shop Sticky (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=416023) for a better definition of the various illegal actions and forbidden links on the forums and the game. This sticky will come down shortly now that the new Rules thread is in place. Go read it.

They invented AIM so a bunch of losers could go exchange referral links in chat rooms.

Thank you. Our server is down (that's why the link won't work), but it's a Media Design company I'm part of.
