Hi there!

I'm confused.... :confused:

As I understood it - It is illegal to replicate the name of a Nation on NationStates - Thus it would be illegal to replicate a nation by calling myself Moooooby and pretending to be me. I know this to be so as I was deleted by you guy's for pretending to be a nation who complained (At the time I was not aware of duplicity as a crime).

Now - What confuses me is this - It's illegal to replicate a Nation name, but not illegal to replicate a Region name? So I could name myself after Cog's Region and go around threatening other Regions with death? Or would this then result in my deletion and therfore prove the theory that it is indeed 'One rule for us, one rule for them'?

Here's hoping for some sensible answers!

In this thread http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=412442 you were advised to make a Getting Help request, and the thread was closed. Have you done so, or are you just bringing it up again and again in case we might have forgotten?

I made the request as suggested and the answer was telegrammed to the person who made the original complaint. I was not contacted at all, the answer (after some discussion) was that it was legal - Now I'm asking for clarification as to why it's legal and how far does it go before it's ILLegal?

i.e. Ok - I use the same name as somebody else's Region. I'm legal. I use this nation to flamebait Nations in the Region with my name - I'm legal.
I take a similar name to a Nation - I'm illegal! I use this Nation to flamebait the Region with the Nation I get deleted.

Is there a fundamental difference that I'm missing? It just looks exactly the same to me!

All I'm looking for is clarification on the replication rule!

Most likely, yes. Chances are, if you don't make an effort to be exactly like the original nation, and don't do anything illegal, you'll be fine.

Not a mod, these are not official answers. They are just answers from an experienced player who thinks he knows what he's talking about.

From what I understand, it isn't replicating someone with a similar name unless you purposely put something in your motto, or other customizable options, as well as the forum that is specifically mocking the nation in question. As Hersfold said, you'll be fine if you don't do anything that purposely mocks the other person with the similar name. Choosing to flamebait another region is the problem here. Purposely going out of the way to try to piss other people off (and to try to get them to respond to the flamebait) is, in all cases, wrong.

Let me tell you the reason behind my questions. Now remember that this - according to Moderation IS LEGAL.

We had a player in our Region who after a dispute decided to leave - He was not ejected. He then created a Nation with our Regional name and went over to other Regions declaring War on our behalf - Effectively he has been using this Nation to flamebait not only our region - But the Regions board he has been posting on.

Clever ploy or illegal use of a Nation name? Personally I can't see the difference there between replicating MY name and posting on other Regions boards declaring war and replicating our Regions name and declaring war - Is there a difference?

Here's my 2 cents worth, but keep in mind that I'm nobody.

1) What's the difference in whether he names himself after your region or calls himself "MyLand Incorporated". If the action is illegal, it would be due to impersonating a region in threatening other regions and wouldn't really be any worse based on the name of the nation being used to do it.

2) Nations and regions are different things. Not allowing them to have the same name would greatly limit the possibilities for region names. It would be too complex to disallow a region named "England" just because a nation with that name exists and vice-versa.

I haven't seen an official ruling on this that I can remember; however, I don't think naming a country in a clear attempt at mocking another player's country is allowed. I've seen two people I RP with regularly be mocked by having countries created whose names imitated theirs. I *think* those mocking countries' names were deated.

Then again, it's possible that the players involved did something far worse that I didn't see to get the deat. That's why I'm not a moderator and I'm just a player.

But we can see from the responses had so far that people are not very sure about this area. What we need is Moderation Clarification! (Wanna buy a new catch phrase? :) )

Everyone agrees that duplicating a Nation name should be and is illegal. I found out the hard way.. :(

But we need clarification on Region names - Especially siince I've just stolen Cog's Region name and used it as the name for my spanky new Nation which I intend to use to cause panic and dismay amongst the noob Regions!!!!! :eek:

True - If the Nation called "England" goes about their own business then there's no harm done - Agreed - But my point is that the Nation who has duplicated our Region name is intent on causing harm to our Region and has duplicated the name with the sole reason of being seen as affiliated with our Region - Which I believe should be illegal!

Your view is greatly appreciated however.

So that would mean that the ruling applied to the Nation of New North Pacific saying that it is legal to replicate our Nation name and go around pretending to be a voice of our Region would be incorrect wouldn't it? Mainly because he was im·per·son·at·ing our Region and not creating a par·o·dy of it - Or does this only apply to duplicates of Nation names???!!??

Man, all I need is clarification.... Is it THAT difficult a question??

While I have been awaiting response for this query for over a week, Our Region New North Pacific has now been griefed. All Native regions ejected and a 'New' New north pacific created - Founded by the very person I have been querying you about!!!

WHY WOULD YOU LET THIS HAPPEN??!?

What should I have done to get a quicker repsonse??!? Should I have spammed the Mod forum? I sent numerous requests via the FAQ once this thing started AND as suggested by a Mod and STILL received no repsonse??? Have I done something to OFFEND the moderators on this site??!? :headbang: :headbang:

*Not a moderator myself (Thank God)* But This is my suggestion as to what needs to happen.
New North Pacific now needs to be re-created with the original founder in place. The nation of Dinner III needs to be deleted for griefing. Also the Nations behind Dinner III should be punished for replicating the original nation of Dinner and Dinner II.

The Nations of New North Pacific and NNP Admin should all be deleted for replicating the Region name and attempting to be affiliated with the region while spreading bile - And the Nation BEHIND these regions as well as the griefing of our region should be punished.

E-Xtremia - I have been polite throughout this getting help process! But it's gets harder and harder to stay polite after a week passes and no moderators respond to my query - And it's incredibly hard to stay polite when your Region gets griefed by the very person you've been trying to get clarification on!

It seems to me that this all could have been avoided - And that's what makes it extra difficult to stay polite...

So sorry if I sound a little peeved - I am!!!
