I've known of dead baby jokes since I was a kid in the mid-70s. What I've always wondered is this: Is the root of tehse jokes a simple pre-adolescent and puerile need to amuse one another through boundary shredding and shock value (like the toddler who discovers the reaction "dirty" words have on some adults) -- or is there something more along the lines of psychological deviancy going on?

Opinions?

(Side note, I know a few of them, so I'm not coming from a "heavens, why must we all degrade human life like this" moral absurdist POV -- I'm genuinely curious.)

As a puerile adolescent with ADD, I have to agree with you. The only thing more shocking are these paedophile jokes I know. I have a friend who knows a lot of really... bad jokes (I get them from him)... they cause this kind of discomfort that results in uncontrollable laughter because it's so shocking, particularly in large groups of people.

It isn't psycological deviancy. it purely is to shock. Why do you watch horror movies? To be shocked and feel uncomfortable. Some kinds of discomfort are... well, fun.

Just the thoughts of a teenager.

It would be common sense to know that such jokes are not allowed on this site. No matter how funny you find them.

And, personally, I'm disgusted they had to use the name of my favorite morphic kitty for their actions. If you're going to be a troll, at least use a name everybody hates. That way, you save time on them having to make a decision about you.

If you want to have a discussion on the philosophical underpinnings of the dead baby joke, do so in General. I would advise you that encouraging posting of lots of pointless dead baby jokes would not be a great idea. It might be better just to do a general treatise on juvenile humor.


If you want to post a string of dead baby jokes in a thread about abortion, you'd better have some better justification than simple thread hijacking. If your nation has already been warned and forumbanned for flaming and trolling, it's quite likely that you too would be deleted. Choo-Choo Bear didn't get deleted for being gross, he got deleted for continuing a trend of being a rulebreaker.
