you shouldn't let stupid posts get to you.

i'm conservative, a Christian, and a citizen of alabama...if i can keep from complaining about all the "offensive" or "tasteless" threads, so can you

Some people just don't know how to express their dislike of someone tastefully.

Yeah, it's in poor taste.

Do we enforce tastefulness in posting? Not really. There were tasteless posts about Reagan's death and the tsunami disaster. Just ignore them and move on.

I've seen threads deleted for being in "poor taste" before.

Or at least locked, which is what happened with the Reagan threads and the Arafat threads.

My "If the Pope was a vegetable" thread was locked and deleted for poor taste. :)

Funny. Threads mocking the deaths of Thais, Reagan, Arafat, and the Pope are all "poor taste", but Margaret Thatcher is fair game.

That's pretty funny you mention DEAD people, while Maggie Tatcher is still alive. There's a difference between tasteless parody and being downright rude. Especially when someone has died recently making rude jokes about him/her or starting some controversial stuff about them might offend many people.

Some people request dancing and good music on their funerals. I understand that this thread was not meant to pay respect to the deceased. I would classify that poll as very poor taste and bordering on troll-like behaviour.

That thread mentioning Arafat and Reagan (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=373191) in case this helps.

I dunno, folks. *shrugs*

Actually if memory serves me correct, which I believe it does, no threads were censored more than the American election threads. So indeed it does at least appear to be a double standard, I will admit.

If memory serves me correct, that would be because people had shown an unwillingness and inability to handle themselves on the boards, and the mods were rushing trying to put out wildfires AND deal with some of their own who were fanning the flames rather than assisting in attempting to keep things civil.

People got utterly ridiculous over the whole thing. I saw folks who were usually friendly with one another turn enemy overnight due to rather strong opinions one way or the other.

I don't call that particular thing 'inconsistent'. I call it a lack of self-moderation on the parts of far too many people who ought to know better.

This other bit ... yeah. I'm not sure where the line is, but after reading that thread, I can't say as I agree with it not getting locked. Just my $.02.

[edit]Those Tsunami and other threads that show horribly poor taste and seem to be nothing but flamebait go right along with that. I guess I just don't see the point in creating a thread simply to be spiteful.

Don't give that troll any more attention. You're all making a way to big deal out of this. It is just another troll, and that's all there is to it.
Remember, you can feed the troll all you want, but it's never satisfied.

Oh, indeed. Nothing like having a voracious troll around to keep folks stirred up. I suppose it's human nature to want to jump all over that sort of thing, especially if one feels strongly about the topic at hand, or if the troll insists on getting personal or something. http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=8628174&postcount=13 <--Like here.
One thing I suppose you can say about General - never a dull moment. ;)
