You know, he gets rather a lot of email.

I finally changed my e-mail page to announce that I can no longer reply to all letters. I cringed as I did it, because I knew some people would take this as proof that I am an out-of-touch egomaniac with no time for his fans, and I’d prefer to keep that a secret. I also worried I would get fewer e-mails, since people might not bother writing if there wasn’t much chance of a reply. Instead, my e-mail inflow practically doubled. It’s like everyone was looking at that pathetic line, “I will try to reply in 19 weeks,” and thought, “Poor bastard, I’ll leave him be.”

The whole point of NS is to promote a book. It's not exactly a pristene utopian paradise. Just be glad we can play for free. If you don't like how Max Barry does or doesn't interact with the playing community, go play something else. I'm an author too, and I know how tough it is to juggle life with writing. I couldn't imaging juggling real life, writing, AND micromanaging belly achers who play a free web game. If you want to post news from some outside source, feel free. In other words, if you want something done right do it yourself.

We are the hassle, the bother to the game and the actual point of the site (to sell Max's books/role-play nations trying to interact). The extremes on both sides feel that they are being put out by the 'establishment,' and they all go crying to Max. On the 'big list of things that matter' we're on the way bottom. That does give us a lot of leway, but I don't know what kind of problem that would have to erupt in General for Max to do anything-other than get rid of the whole mess and be done with it.
