My thread deleted- I would like to ask....

Pardon me, but I feel that the deletion of my thread "The Next Revolution! (Warning contains images some may find disturbing)" (EDIT- In the General Forum, for reference) by Frisbeeteria was a bit heavy-handed. I placed a warning in the title about the images contained within. They were unsettling, yes, but all came from media sources and they were nothing you couldn't turn on the TV at any said hour and find, so I believed the warning was sufficient. The power of those images was something I was trying to prove a point with.

I believe that the simple removal of those pictures if they truly were deemed inappropriate would have sufficed and that the deletion of the thread was completely unneccessary. However, I didn't even receive a telegram asking for me to modify them.

I feel this is unfair and i'd like to ask why these other options weren't considered.

Either the pics broke site rules or something else was involved. Just for an example, I'm still not allowed to post porn, even if I give a warning in the title that porn is in my post.

They were - A child with malaria, a child injured in a bomb blast (no blood visible, just a child on a stretcher) and a child suffering malnutrition.

This was a joint decision by two mods. We felt that even with the disclaimer, the images were too graphic for this site. Rather than leave it up while we took the time to discuss it, the thread has been soft-deleted and can be reviewed by other mods. I suspect they will concur with our opinions, but it can still be reversed if so ruled.

We'll look at it again this evening when more of us are online.

Good, then. If the other mods concur with your decision, I would prefer if the thread is restored minus the offending pictures. Thanks.

Also, as it was created as a copycat of a joke thread (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=408206) (including a cross-reference back to the original), we felt it was in excessively poor taste.

The pictures were intended to prove a point about the quality of life some people face. I recognised that some such things may unnerve people, so I placed the warning so people could avoid it.

I didn't take that thread as a joke. I took it as a rather poor critique of socialism.

So I made my rebuttal, a critique of capitalism, with images to boot. I didn't intend for it to be in poor taste. I was clearly not condoning such situations. I wasn't trying to sensationalise it or give people pleasure out of it, rather make them think and reflect on it in an albeit unconventional way.

Created in response to this thread here, it's a locked duplicate, but I didn't see the original thread.
This would constitute a copycat of a duplicated and locked thread, as you yourself state. Reposting locked threads is against the rules, and copycatting threads is spamming (against the rules). Hence, this thread is spam (a copycat of a thread already locked).

Then, in a joke I considered in extraordinarily poor taste, are posted pictures of children working, a skeletally-starved infant, and childen who are obviously sick and hurt. They are, as you point out, disturbing.

I agree with Frisbeeteria's deletion of the thread.

It wasn't intended to be a copycat, rather a rebuttal. It had content, and wasn't intended as malicious spam.

I didn't intend for it to be humourous --or even imply any form of humorous undertone-- I was trying to make a statement.

EDIT- To elaborate further, I was deploring the fact that children are used in forced labor. I was deploring the fact that children die from readily preventable diseases. I was deploring the fact that innocent children die in wartime. And I most certainly was deploring the fact that governments sell off food surpluses and result in innocent children starving to death. I don't think it's funny, no, and I certainly didn't mean to give that impression. I was intending to carry across the statement that something needs to be done.

After thinking about this further, i've decided to drop it.

I'll reiterate that this was NOT intended as a sick joke.

Coming across as some sort of sick freak that is perversely excited by seeing images of children suffering was the complete polar opposite to what I intended, and this considered, it's best that the thread is forgotten about.

I sincerely apologise for offending you and wasting your time.

I want to repeat once more that I didn't find it funny. Once again, i'm sorry.

I think I understand what you were trying to get across even if the images were hard to look at. You were showing a reality that most of us want to stick our heads in the sand over. I do this myself at times because I feel helpless to do anything about a situation. To dismiss it rather than face or confront it seems to be human nature at times especially when we are well fed and safe in our own beds :) . You sound like you are a very sensitive person who would not think it was a joke, so I don't know why anyone would take it that way. The images obviously stirred and disturbed something deep within you. Just because we ignore such circumstances in humanity doesn't make them go away. Think of the children who are still suffering while we turn our backs on the reality of their plight. Hang in there. You are a crusader and I admire you for that.

Kanabia gave up on this about a week or so ago. There's no need to bring it back up.
