Flaming (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=8515985&postcount=37) by No State At All.

Disagreeing is fine. This is just flat-out immature.

Ask yourself, how can it be illegal to use one of the standard smilies?

Look at the entire content of the post in question. It's an out-right flame, with or without the smile.

It seems to be said IC and is in reference to the boat ("The Argos") the whole thread is about.

Just as my two cents... I would think the post by itself was a bit twinkish (IE, Godmoding)

Add in the flippy finger though... sounds like it is a bit of flamebaiting to me

It's technically possible for me to type out "fuck you" on the forum. That doesn't necessarily mean that I should.

As far as I'm concerned the smilie was obviously provided by Jolt and their is no regulation on the usage of said smilie. The rest of the post is not flaming, indeed, I've seen ruder comments from bigger nations before and nobody said a thing about it. The only insult I see is the smilie, and again, that's a provided smilie.

yeah, the smilie itself isn't offensive, its the fact that it was an IC post and the smilie is out of character.

I don't think its worth mod action. maybe just a reminder to the author to stayIC

it was ruled that there are times when the smilies do violate the ns tos like say this

person A-> :) :sniper: <-person B

That's understandable, when a person uses two smilies to paint some kind of picture of actually threatening someone OOCly... however, the 'flip-off' smilie is a 'one time use smilie', meaning it's just there, and there was nothing to compliment it. Again, I don't see this as a case for flaming.

Since no one appears to have made an official response, here 'tis.

I should probaby keep my nose out of this since a rulings been made and all but...
ooc: heard of anechoic plating? (not sure of the spelling)
i find some medium depth water, sit on the sea-bed, wait for you to cross, and sink you.

"OOC" stands for Out Of Character.

Just my 2 cents

I have looked it over and over again, though it states to be an OOC remark, the second part of the post is obviously IC. Can't see which part the smilie belongs too, but since it is posted in "International incidents" and the smilie is a legal Jolt smilie, I can't see what's so offencive here. Obviously no rules are broken. In love and war a certain thickness of skin is adviced :P

"OOC" stands for Out Of Character.
And the line sporting the ooc was clearly an appeal to the player, but the rest of the post was equally clearly IC.

Does Ramissle have any battleships personally? Can No State At All ooc'ly sit on the ocean floor and wait for Ramissle's theoretical ship to pass by?

I stand by the ruling.

I don't mean to dig up an old thread, and I'm not pressing for mod action (I did find it offencive by the way BLARGistania, but I think reporting him to the mods is a bit too far...) but that post was obviously OOC all the way through. Indeed, it was aprt of a clearly marked OOC conversation between Ramissle, him and I throughout the entire thread. It isn't uncommon for players to refer to themselves with reference to their nations. Speaking as someone who RPs on II regularly, and has been doing so for almost a year now, I would say with confidence that that is an entirely OOC post. Just thought I should point this out. Again, not pressing for mod action and if you find this post annoying / out of place / whatever then tell me and I'll delete it.
