Mods- you are the king of all things- not really, but it sounded good. so i thought i would ask you your opinion in this matter.. i am relatively new, newer, newest, and have seen some ridiculous fights about voting contests on the general forum.
i am about to start the voting for the male chest thread (cheesy? i know!!! but i couldnt HELP myself!) (BTW, do any of you want to enter??? :D )

what do you think would be the fairest way to vote?

As long as it remains civil and doesn't spam up the place, we don't care.

Okay, that said, I do have some suggestions to make as an ordinary player:

If your contest is going to have multiple stages, then keep all of it in a single thread. I assume you will be organizing this, so you should make a new post whenever you start a new stage; edit your opening post in the topic to provide a link to the post that starts the latest stage. This link should look like this:
http://www.forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?p=8468121
That link opens up Sandpits thread on his "platform", but centers attention immediately on [violet]'s first post in the topic. How did I make that link? Here's how:

First, I found [violet]'s post and right-clicked on the "#28" in the upper right corner of the post. (Macintosh users with single-button mice: This will probably be control-click or command-click.) That gets me this link:
http://www.forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=8468121&postcount=28
...but that link opens up a window and only shows that one post; probably not convenient in your case. So, take off the "&postcount=28" part...
http://www.forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=8468121
...and then change "showpost" to "showthread".

As for the voting, itself, I suggest the following:
Assuming that you start with a known field of candidates, allow each person voting to vote for some number of people. For example, out of a field of 40, let each person vote for 20. Allow self-voting, but don't allow multiple votes from one person to another. You have 20 votes, but only if you vote for 20 people. If you decide you only want to vote for 14 people, then you only get 14 votes.

The system I suggest is flexible: You can cut the field as 40, 20, 10, 5, 2, 1, or if you want to keep the number of stages small, then you can go 40, 10, 3, 1. It's up to you. I do suggest that you allow at least 3 days (5 or 7 is better, in my personal opinion) for each stage of voting, as people do have real lives and can't be on every day, or may need time to think about their decision.

Cog, I thought you were a Mac user. Maybe you have a two button mouse...

Two buttons and a mouse wheel; it's easier for most of my games. I am a Mac user, but I haven't used a single-button mouse in a while.
