Just curious - wouldn't a lock work just as well? Seems a shame to remove RPs from the game unless there was a problem.

Well, there were some problems, not being able to finish them for the forseeable future due to pressing RL matters and tech wank on both sides, to name a few. The latter was the worst, making even starting the threads up a big mistake.
