A Question about what is acceptable:

I am relatively new to all of this and have tried to stick within what is common sense as to what should or shouldn't be said. I have expressed myself mostly in fun using the html available to me and I hope I haven't over stepped my boundries.

I have been posting to a thread, "Let's Start a Story" in the General Forum, for the last few days and there has been a person, Hailowniss, who seems to me trying desperately to get a rise out of some of us by his inflamatory comments.

The last straw for me was his comment made at #127 which is obviously highly inflamatory and rascist.

Is he within his right of free speech etc. to post these kinds of comments?

Lapse of taste? Yeah, probably.

Trolling? I could make a case if his post history supported these sorts of posts, but it doesn't. In fact, he's posted several bizarre but totally non-racist comments to that same thread.

Right of free speech? Within the limitations set by the FAQ and the official stickies, yeah. He can say that.

Inflamatory and rascist comments are specifically permitted, as long as they aren't considered trolling, flaming, flamebait, or one of the other crash-and-burn offenses here.

There's always the actual option to ignore them built into the Jolt forums that you can employ to aiding in your question to ignore a given poster.

Inflamatory and racist comments are specifically permitted, as long as they aren't considered trolling, flaming, flamebait, or one of the other crash-and-burn offenses here. This creates a problem of where do you draw the line. I could argue that any inflammatory or racist comment could be considered trolling, flaming, or flamebait. If someone called me a faggot OOCly, I'd consider that an outright flame worthy of a modbomb.

If someone called me a faggot OOCly, I'd consider that an outright flame worthy of a modbomb.Which is why I qualified my previous statement. It is legal to say "I believe the white race is supreme" or "I think being gay is a disease". It is not legal to say "You are a <choice of expletive> <choice of derisive term>, and I therefore hate you."
This creates a problem of where do you draw the line. I could argue that any inflammatory or racist comment could be considered trolling, flaming, or flamebait. Which is why we have moderators to make those sorts of judgements. We use the chart below as a sort of touchstone for evaluating posts ...
