Take heed nationstate players, if your nation has the word 'ass' in it, you are about to be deleted thanks to the tireless efforts of one Steel Butterfly.

This 'person' feels it is important that all yucky words get removed from nationstates.

My other nation, asshelmetropolis, is getting deleted with about one hundred and twenty other nations because of an overly vigorous interpretation of the obscenity rules.

Where does this lead? To a place where any farcical interpretation of your nations name could lead to a deletion of your nation.

What the fresh hell? This is utterly stupid, and reminds me horribly of political correctness. Who is complaining that they are getting insulted by the word "ass" in a nation's name? Where are the driving crowds which are protesting against people innocently having that word within thier nation's name as part of thier actual nation name? When people read "Assington", is everyone corrupted and deeply insulted by it?

This is a slippery slope issue, because if this were indeed true, then why not delete the countless threads that have profanity lacing them? I also say nay to this idea, for there are some RPers out there who have built up excellent reputations, thus, why punish them?

I say, go on a case by case decision. Don't punish the whole for the stupidity of a few.

Based on the mods removing the signature, it was probably more than just "ass" in the title. Maybe a bad flag or something. Ask the mods to see what really got you DEATed. And if it was just the name like you say, don't blame Steel Butterfly.

And upon further thinking, your name was asshelmetropolis. Asshel is basically asshole. Sorry, but someone was probably offended by the curse word in your title.

[EDIT: And I highly doubt that Steel Butterfly got you deleted for just your name. His RPs include countless swearwords.]

Actually, yeah, exactly why Steel Butterfly would do that is beyond me, SB has some of the most graphic violence in his RP's, not really much like him to pick over something as trivial as the word "ass".

You seem to be forgetting the fact that you had a link to a specific website that had pornography. Your complaints about this topic is only going to give you more of a disadvantage among the moderators, since this topic is quite flamebaitish.

Despite the fact that Steel Butterfly was the first to stand up and say something about your name, it is still, nevertheless against the rules of Nation States, so I see no point in blaming SB for your problems.

Assington was ruled to be ok since there is a city in RL named Assington. All of this is stated in the link to that thread.

BTW for those reading who actually thought that was a decent idea... well, what is an asshelmet? = vulgar meaning something. What is a steel butterfly? A... steel butterfly. The thing with Asshelmetta is the nation name is based off a slang term for ... whatever an asshelmet is. (I could guess... but I don't know for sure. But it's a lot more provokative than butterfly.)

Firstly: Obscene names are illegal on NationStates. When we notice them, and when we sweep for them, they are deleted.

Secondly: It was linking to a site which contained adult material, and a subsequent investigation which turned up questionable names which resulted in some deletions of improper names.

Thirdly: This is spelled out in the TOS and should be a surprise to no one. We are not about to change our policy on obscenity because a few people like to push the envelope.

Fourthly: This call for harassing a poster is completely out of line, and is a continuation of the same foolishness as was placed on the Regional Messageboard.

I STRONGLY SUGGEST that anyone considering harassing another player on this board be advised that such actions will result in both puppets and main nations being dealt with.

Finally: AOF, your complaint is with the Moderation Staff, not any player, and appeals may be made via Salusa@nationstates.net. If any more of these threads are started in defiance of the moderation decision, your nation will be forumbanned and considered for deletion.

I will also remind everyone that obscenities in the game are more tightly regulated than obscenities in the forums. Forum posts can be responded to and debated. National names, currencies, et cetera have no place to tack on a debate.
