a thread is getting ugly fast

the creator of the thread may not have meant things to go this way, but it has become really ugly in the "united states of america" thread in the general forum

http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=403353

starts of with post number #2
then on to #15 where someone decides to get ugly
then on to #41

for several pages goes back to being a debate and then

then post # 142 starts the ball rolling again
then we have post #158

probably time to lock the thread or delete it ... sad to say

The mods usually appreciate if you link to the posts in question, I believe.

http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=8386507&postcount=15
http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=8386744&postcount=41
(it appears Monkeypimp was drunk. Didn't this happen once before?)

(I don't think this one really seems to count as anything, mostly just him being annoying.)

Those were the ones you reported.
Here is another:

Also, what's with New Granada claiming every thread he doesn't like is spam?

oops... forgot about 159... oh well, there were so many after all...

I know about posting the links part, but saw another post recently from a Mod saying linking to the thread and then listing the post number was ok...

but whichever is ok with me.

about New Granada, I just think he gets offended easily.

I can't speak for my colleagues, but if there are more than 2 or 3 referenced posts in a single thread, I'm going to need to read them in context. In those cases, I'd rather have the thread link and post numbers.

If some jerk has been randomly posting spam in different threads, then post links are better. Context becomes irrelevant in those cases.

Does that clarify it?

A-HA!
Thanks for that!
Damn, I've been confused about that all along. Thanks for explaining.

I agree with this. It was a poem. But people are blowing it out of proportion.

142 was a justified response though, I did qualify it with an apology at the very start, since the language used was strong.

Could you also close this one. It has outlived its purpose and people seem to be repeating the same stuff over and over. I havn't seen anything new added since someone dug it up the other day.

Since you're still answering posts and other people are responding, I'm assuming you changed your mind. If you really want a thread to die, it helps to not post in it.

That is correct. I have changed my mind.

In future, let us know, please. I hate guessing.
