Just keep an eye on it.

It's ok for now, but it can spiral out of control very quickly.

Thanks!

Then why not say something AFTER it spins out of control? It's kind of pointless to call attention to it until someone does something wrong.

Because maybe, as a minority, I know how these things can end up?

He is correct. This sort of thing often leads to offensive content.

Because maybe, as a minority, I know how these things can end up?Yes. A lot of the threads created in General can end up swirling down the toilet very quickly. It's struck me that this mindset is very firmly seated in that entire forum. That's why a lot of role-players and Moderators would like to chuck the whole thing, if only Max would let them.

However sympathetic I am to your plight as a minority (of whatever stripe I don't know; I'm not asking), until someone actually crosses the line there's really no reason to bring it up. The potential is frequently there. A request to "watch" the thread just wastes time. I'm sorry, but if you look at the Mod Olympics sticky you know how busy they are.

I can only speak as a mod on another mb - but personally I am always happy to get 'heads up' alerts - I have a life off line and while I do end up each day reading every thread in "my" forums - I don't always get to each in the most timely of fashions - and if one is on edge or going over same I like to know it. I can then keep a closer eye on it.

but that's just my .02 worth

Well, if this is an appropriate place for a mod's day off thread...

I don't moderate speech much, other than pederasty. But I don't have children posting on my board; nationstates apparently does have highschool kids playing. Combine that with the size of the board, and I really don't envy the mods here.

I can see why the heads up threads would be appreciated.

I had more than enough trouble as co-admin of a board that was just about computer programming...

You'd be surprised how heated some discussions over compiler choice can get. Man, people pick the stupidest things to yell about...

I wouldn't be surprised at all.

I mean, the Visitor pattern is totally inappropriate for compiler design!
Sun's semantic laziness has made a joke out of Studio 8!
I mean, c'mon! How can you live with a compiler that throws exceptions for template templates?
