Mod Inconsistency

GMC specifically said that we could swear as much as we wanted, and that this wasn't a "family" forum.

Now this new mod is saying that we can't talk about masturbation and stuff...

???

Um ... in case you hadn't noticed, the name of the forum is Nation States, not Master Bates.

Oh dear gawd, Neopets flashback-- ~~~cakkkk~~~

Quit complaining.

Wow - smart, insightful, and funny.

Nice one!

You were told just minutes ago that this is not the forum for this. If you wish to ask a question about moderation, take it to the proper forum. This is a warning.

Ok - there, I brought it over. Now what is your response.

N.B The critical analyzing is getting really old. It just doesn't have to same effect of making you sound intelligent anymore. So if a mod is thinking about breaking apart this post apart sentence by sentence and proving that they are smarter than me, I suggest you just reply to my question.

Who is wrong here - GMC or the new mod? They both have opposing rules.

GMC specifically said that we can swear as much as we want, and that this isn't a "family forum". Yes he said exactly that.

This new mod is saying that we can't talk about things like masturbation - which I seen people talk about many times before on this board with no problem.

Is this new mod just settling down, or has GMC made a really big mistake?

In fact, adding to that, the new mod also said something like:

"This is not "family friendly."

So, there is no question of both of the mods being right - as they both said very opposite things.

Talking about masturabation is a different creature than swearing.

What can't I post?

Any content that is:

* obscene
* illegal
* threatening
* malicious
* defamatory
* spam

I don't see what's so obscene about masturbation. Smells like puritanism to me.

I don't think it is obscene to anyone open-minded.

I think obscene would change regarding the context in which "Masturbation" is used.

Actually, I didn't say you could swear as much as you wanted, beings as your last deletion was, among other things, for swear-spamming.

As said before, a ban on swearing will not be.

I didn't say 'a ban on talking about whacking off will not be,' I don't think...Also, 'A ban will not be enforced' does not mean 'you can spam swearwords on the end of all your posts from now on.'

I VERY STRONGLY agree on this.

Erm.. either you're lying or you're getting mixed up. You didn't say anything about banning, you said we could swear as much as we wanted to. Someone even left because of you.

Find 'you can swear as much as you want' in the following, then:

As far as I'm aware there no rules against bad language in RP posts, and I don't believe there's any ruling against such in General.

Dobbs Town's charming trolling that Browing replied to, on the other hand, gets him a warning.

Actually, it's a quote of a comedy skit, I believe. And, as said, there is no rule I'm aware of against swearing in the General forum unless it's part of a flame.

...Um, right.

http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=392428

'Obscenities' in this context refers to 'sexually graphic images or posts,' not swearing. It will still be enforced. As said before, a ban on swearing will not be.

Oops, it's not there, is it? The best you get is 'there is no rule I'm aware of against swearing in the general forum unless it's part of a flame.' Unfortunately, repeatedly posting the same word, be it 'fuck,' 'chair' or 'trouser,' IS illegal because it's spam.

Accusing a moderator of lying is done with the aid of evidence, not vague assertations.

How hard is it to admit that you were wrong?

The way I swear isn't spam, because I am actually saying something.

ie.

"Best Fucking RP Ever."

What do you think is the best fucking RP ever. I think its fucking Diablo, because its such a great fucking game, and the levels are fucking huge.

Excessive, but not spam.

I'd like everyone who cries out about mod inconsistencies to just think what's it like to be the "victim" and the "mod" in this case with a game this large. It's pretty much a thankless job, and all people do is bitch about what happens around here; NS isn't that important to be bitching about what moderators do and don't do.

Sure, there's a time and place for swearing. No big. But I can't help but feel kind of sorry for folks who can't seem to manage to express themselves in any other way than to constantly spew expletives in an attempt to emphasize their points ... or whatever they're trying to prove with it.

Anyone can swear. It takes a bit more skill to get your point across without having to resort to just being crude for the sake of being crude.

As far as differences in opinions between the mods go, hell - they're different people. I guarantee you if you ask their personal opinion on any one given topic, you're going to find just about as many different personal opinions as there are people you ask. Seems from what Cog says, they're attempting to better define where those lines are for these sorts of things - which is probably for the best.

Part of the problem is I think the question of what defines 'excessive', as well as the fact that in the move from the old forums to these, we lost the filters so ... yeah.

What do you think is the best fucking RP ever. I think its fucking Diablo, because its such a great fucking game, and the levels are fucking huge.
Yeah, excessive. You say so yourself. I would think the 'excessive' bit is what would apply there, spam aside.

As for the masturbation bit, I'd suggest a lot depends on the context and the manner in which it's discussed. After all, making some comment about 'wanking off' is a far cry from making one about say 'splooging all over X' or the like, no? Context, content, not just subject - it does make a difference.
