Flaming, flamebait, topic out of control

I think this topic has outlived it's usefulness with the sort of stuff one can see posted there. The whole topic is such that it's a calling to people to flame and bait.

That was evidently not intended as a serious flame, merely a joke. I don't think anybody else took offence from that, and it really doesn't seem that serious.

EDIT: Unless its your thread, in which case you're allowed to ask for a lock. If not, and it isn't too serious yet, then only the thread author can request a lock I think.

Trolling: Posts that are made with the aim of angering people. (like 'ALL JEWS ARE [insert vile comment here]' for example). Also is used to refer to making obviously silly topics that people nonetheless will reply to. (making a case for the proof that teletubbies exist for instance. There will always be someone who feels compelled to post 'No they don't.' Threads like this should just be ignored.)

I think that "Kill All White Males" qualifies as trolling.

Oh, I know only the thread author can request a lock, I'm suggesting the whole thread just be deleted since it's just an invite for flaming and lots of flaming.

As long as its an "invite" there's no problem, when it actually BECOMES flaming, then there's a problem and they may delete it. Also, he didn't use it as a serious source to back up a point, but to reminisce. Its not a poster that he drew, so I don't know if you can count it against him.

How long would my thread last if I made one, even for a "joke" (some idea of a joke they have) with a pasted picture that said, "End Middle Eastern Violence, Kill all Israelis"

The point is a "Kill all" or "death to all" (insert group here) is nothing more than trolling designed to provoke a response from that *inserted group*.

The linked post reads:
hehe this topic reminds me of a Protest Warrior sign.

It has not been edited since it was posted.

If he had posted the image by itself, then it would be warnable as trolling. However, his comment in that post ("hehe this topic reminds me of a Protest Warrior sign.") indicates that he's not arguing for killing all white males, but rather pointing to the sign as an example of absurdity.

In other words, MuhOre is just saying "The absurdity in this topic reminds of of this other absurdity over here: [points to ProtestWarrior]"

Now, it's possible that citing that image was in bad taste to the point where it's classifiable as "obscene" under the NationStates Terms and Conditions and thus should be removed, but I need to pass that judgment off to another Moderator.

As for the thread itself.... All controversial subjects have the potential to encourage flaming, flamebaiting, and trolling. We don't lock down a thread unless it has actually happened.

I don't have the time to read the entire thread. If there are examples of flaming, flamebaiting, or trolling going on in there, then please provide links directly to the posts involved.

There isn't really any flaming going on that I can see, just misguided individuals that failed to realize the thread was a parody of another thread, and who failed to read any of the posts that said it was a parody.

I, pesonally, haven't seen anything that qualifies as a flame in there.
