Archiving Questions

Okay... I am very, very confused about the Archiving issue. I have a few questions, so if you guys could pleas clarify, it would be very helpful.

Are the moderators still deleting old threads or are the threads being kept on? Are we still archiving? I believe The Most Glorious Hack stated that in one thread, due to the space available in the Jolt Forums that we would not be archiving and because old threads would not be deleted.

And if Archiving still exists, does an Archive Request thread still exist or should I post a thread requesting a moderator to archive something?

Thanks

~YiYang, really confused and 5CN's player

Could you give us a link to where The Most Glorious Hack said that?

I remember seeing several comments on this topic, but I doubt I could find them quickly. Here's my understanding: You can use the Subscription feature to keep track of any topic you want, even pre-Jolt topics. You do have to find them once, but having done so and Subscribed to a given topic, you never need to search again.
Topics important to your nation can be added as hyperlinks in your sig, thus making them easily accessible to any interested parties.
The necessity for purging old topics (last done in Summer 2003) was a function of storage space and speed of the old server. Given our new, virtually unlimited space on the Jolt server farm, there is no need for periodic purges of older topics.
Given the relative ease in finding older topics either by browsing Forum pages or using Jolt's search feature, you should be able to locate topics from mid-2003 onward with relative ease, assuming you have a clue what the topic title might be.For these and possibly other reasons, the Archive Request topic was de-stickied. The Archive itself is still being added to on a moderator-decided basis of historical importantance, but it is no longer necessary to archive older topics for fear of them being purged.

(If you want a handy method of searching 200 topic titles at a time, try this: Click Page 2 of a forum. Go to the URL and look for the pp valueforums2.jolt.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=1231&page=2&sort=lastpost&order=&pp=25&daysprune=-1Change the =25 to =200, and you can now browse 200 topics at a time. You can also use your browser's Search feature (Ctrl-F in most Windows browsers) to search for keywords on the page.

In this forum, this reduces the number of pages to be searched from 241 to 31. Much handier to look for a specific topic. It's a huge load, though, so don't try it on dial-up. You need broadband.

Ah... That clarifies some things...
