Question on spam

I just got a spam warning for an "In before the lock" post. First off, I didn't realize that that was considered spam (although, it is a logical conclusion) and would like to apologize for my rule breaking.

But if someone posts spam on a thread that is already spam, why is the second spam post considered an offense? It is like accusing someone of murdering a dead guy.

I'd say it's like bringing the dead guy back to life and then murdering him again.

Its called corpse tampering, and it is illegal, messing with a dead body. I'm surprised its spam myself but hey.

Well, that sounds just like harmless fun.

I think the mod logic was that if the thread should indeed be locked then posting things like that is just feeding the spammers and keeping the thread on the first page in public view.

We have posted a number of times before that "in before the lock" is spam -- we consider it to be "Post count +1" junk.

Additionally -- it shows poor judgment in that one is connecting oneself with a thread one knows to be offensive, foolish, and/or spammy -- basically, "Hee, you're in trouble -- hey, lemme post that I know it AND inflate my post count!"

Spam is spam, regardles of where it is posted. Don't feed the trolls and you won't get burned.

Fair enough, however, I am disappointed that my comment calling bringing someone back to life for the purpose of murdering them again "harmless fun" was lost in the seriousness of this thread. I thought it was pretty damn funny.

While I respect the mods' ruling, I must report that, when reading that thread, I was extremely surprised to see two nations get warnings for just posting "in before lock." I think that saying "in before lock" is akin to saying "I predict that this thread is going to be locked very soon, but I'm not a mod." No one, however, would get a warning for that, would they?

I see it as more of a "na na NA Na na - you're gonna get waaaarned." Sounds pretty spammy to me.

I've seen this posted multiple times over the past 3 or 4 months. It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone reading either spam topics or the Moderation forum.
