'Glenravel the just' from Northern Ireland & 'Celi Cowboy' from region Eire Nua have been deleted. I would like to request if information could be released concerning their deletions. Thank you.

A nickel says they are puppets of the delete-on-sight player of Eirann Shamrock.

Good read, Frisbeeteria. It would seem that 'someone' does not like what was written and continuous to edit it. I would encourage all those that know the true text to continue to put it back to the original state.

I was still wondering if I could get a reply on this thread. The matter of PF is a sore one and the information from this would be helpful. Thanks.

ES/PF clones, yes.

I translated that as:

You claim that Glenravel is a new nation of Eire Shamrock. So how come he (Glenravel) has another new nation which starts with "Glens"? I attempted to post a query via the Getting Help page, but my Internet disconnected half-way through my post. So I'm just checking.

Why can't you just IP ban him? Or have you already done that?

Dial-up users, AOL users, members of large corporate networks, and other types of NS players cannot be IP banned because they either don't have predictable IP addresses or they use a shared pool of addresses (AOL does this). IP bans work fine against broadband, but have problems elsewhere.

Also, Eire Shamrock has a known history of ban evasion, both here and on the old ADN forums. He/she's notoriously difficult to block.

So I take it they can't use an IP ban if you have a dynamic IP or if you are behind a proxy or on a shared network like most cable connections.
But couldn't you use the other methods of detecting UN multies(sp?)? I.E.: Login pattern detection; and two other secret methods.
I heard that if they permanently ban a player, and that player comes back then they can contact the ISP and the ISP can disable his connection or whatever (they can invoke penalties). I don't know if this is true though.

Yea, if NS IP bans you or declares you DoS and you keep coming back you can be reported to your ISP for tresspassing here and they could possibly pull your connection from you. They've done that a few times I think.

And they can ban a dynamic IP but they'd need to blanket ban a bunch on IPs from the same range and in some places you really can't do that since it would affect other members at would do more harm than good.

But there was the time they banned almost all of New Zealand because someone kept posting g0at on the forums and they couldn't keep him out. They reported him to his ISP but I'm not sure if anything ever came about from that...

Heh. Actually, the entire ISP had to reorganize their IP allocation system to come into NationStates compliance.

Incorrect. No, no, and probably not. Most everyone uses dynamic IPs, but most everyone gets refreshed with the same address time after time. I'd bet that 95% of successful IP bans are against dynamic IPs. Proxies are mostly irrelevant - you still show a local IP to the sites. Home gateway routers share an IP, yes, but an IP block would kill only your entire 4 port router, not the entire ISP's collection of addresses.

I'm sure we could get into extensive educational seminars on IP addresses and CIDR interpretation, but let's not. There is plenty of info available elsewhere to those interested, and discussing the "OMG m0ddz04 secrits" isn't all that appropriate. Given your responses, though, I'd recommend that you not present yourself as a "networking authority" in the Moderaton forum.

I never ever presented myself as a "network authority!"
Notice the "I take it that..." in my post. This indicates that this is what I think, but that I am not sure.
Please don't present yourself as a "network authority" authority.

"Frisbeeteria" and "Jjuulliiaann": That will be quite enough.

Ok...sorry for dodgy post, sometimes im just too lazy to clean it up, plus my typing is confusing at the best of times. Do your best to translate this:

Eire Shamrock (who you believe to be the series of Glenravel's :Glenravel, Glenravel the first, Glenravel the just, Glensofdoire) is Delete on Sight. You have twice told me and my region that Glenravel is the same nation as Eire Shamrock.

How comes it took you 2-3 weeks to ban 'Glenravel the just' and after taking up my question with the moderating team through both F&Q and on this thread; the forum, Glensofdoire has not been banned as he should have? Its just a minor worry as it is difficult helping run a region if my delegate is being controlled by this nation and i cannot act against him if the only authority on Glenravel being the same as Eire Shamrock does not provide me with sufficient evidence to show they believe the same as myself.

Maybe you are probably unsure as to whether Glenravel/Eire Shamrock is actually Glensofdoire, however they are the same. So if Glenravel was deleted rightfully, so should Glensofdoire. If Glensofdoire is not deleted, then i can only assume that Glenravel was wrongfully deleted :headbang:

Respectfully,
Donthoran
