Goddamn

I've been reading this thread (i don't know why) and you are an idiotic no-brainer.typically american.

i work in an automotive engineering department at a leading university and you don't know what you're talking about.Euro-Asia ties are strong and they are producing exceptionally advanced engine designs.America barely touches the side of the pool.

And the terrible racist slurs in this thread make me sick.

Your racist comments are pointless.

You think you live in a free country. You are more stupid than I thought.

You are correct about cars never being banned in the USA.Petrol (and cars that consume too much) is what your country's fake economy runs on,along with weapons, hence the reason Dubya went back to finish off his daddy's war.

Wake UP!!USA u are not free unless you do something about it.

Mods I please direct your attention to the very first post in this thread and the second. I'd say this is flamebaiting through the use of racial slurs and profanity. S*** is one of those 7 deadly words and Chink is a racial slur. Also post 12 requotes "Chink S***" and 15 continues the racial slurs from Mr. Kahta. As usual he just shows the two posts that he considers flames and none of the baiting.

Chinese cars, low quality crap (http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=businessNews&storyID=7218322)

I'm already trying to think of catchphrases that rhyme, similiar to Jap Crap.

The only thing I can think of is "Chink shit"... any other suggestions?

I have seen things going back between jahta and many other nations on this forum. I personally would like to see this mess resolved so that we are not wasting forum space. Yes, problems should be posted and dealt with, but how many different threads have there been where kahta had issues with some nation or some nation had issues with kahta? Sorry if I sound like a jerk.

Kahta, I respect that you have more experience on these forums than I do, but in this complaint - from a topic that you yourself broke forum rules (regardless of being told to stop or not - it still happened) - it sounds like you are running to the Mods that people have been saying naughty things in a forum.

Yes, they have - but you are hardly in a 'Holier Than Thou' position here.

The first mod, Myrth, says "Speaking personally, I'd allow it in conversation as long as it is not directed at anyone so as to become flaming." This is like the only mod who posts anything in seriousness in the thread.

In that case, his use would not be allowed.

No, I don't think that follows: Kahta would be within his rights to describe a type of car as a 'heap of junk', and 'shit' here is just being used in the same manner.

I made no comments about the racial epithet - just pointing out that the mere use of the word 'shit' does not in itself consitute behaviour which requires reporting.

In and by itself nope apparently not. But unfortunately in the way Mr. Khata uses it it constitutes flamebaiting.

That car was a piece of s*** would probably be okay. But the way he used it would definitely negate any right he had to make any complaints about people flaming.

You don't mean his "May I please post flamebait in the form of jokes?" thread, do you? Because that wasn't about general use of profanity, it was about making a thread of 'non-PC' jokes, IIRC.

It was but one of the sub-topics of that was the use of profanity in any situation. It coincides with the thread BWO posted that says profanity in the use of flamebaits is a no-no.

Sleep deprivation is a fun thing. Now we're getting off topic. After like 48 hours of not sleeping you could have hallucinations and such. It's fun. Legal way of being in a non-reality state.

Okay, I'm looking over that thread, and I'm asking myself: "Why the hell did I not lock that thread when I first saw it?"

Slurs and ephitets are classified under the "defamatory" clause of the NationStates Terms and Conditions and can be construed as trolling/flaming/flamebait. Marginally-related point: If you want to debate a racist point-of-view, go right shead; just leave the slurs and insults out of it.

The linked topic has been locked because it was turning into a mess. Kahta, you may repost the topic so long as you leave the slurs out of it.

Foul language such as "shit", "fuck", "dick", and so on are not (to my knowledge) forbidden in-and-of-themselves. However, when they accompany something that is a rule violation, they will compound the violation. "Idiot" is going to get an informal word from a Mod about your conduct. "Fucking idiot" is going to get you an official warning.

Before you post, "Think about it for a moment."

Ok.

I understand the ruling on "Chink" and "gook", but is "Jap" considered an epithet or slur? I use it all the time to refer to anything from Japan. I don't think that it should be, or any shortening of a nationality should be considered a slur such as "Scot" for Scottish, "Brit" for British, or "Yank" for American.

"Jap", as a specific case, can be interpreted either way. There are legitimate interpretations fo that word as a racial slur and as a polite term.

We Moderators will judge its use on a case-by-case basis, but in general, I recommend just spelling out "Japanese" rather than abbreviating it.

I'm not familiar with the entymology of "Jap". I have been told by other Moderators that its use depends upon the context and is not as clear a case of a racial/ethnic/religious slur as terms like "kike" or "******".

Again, its use in the forums will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

It was used to describe people that lived in Japan, or were of Japanese ethnicity. Here is an example of a WW2 poster with "jap" on it: http://www.state.nh.us/ww2/images/ww25.jpg

The thing it boils down to when using any of these words is the contex in which they are used.

Like Cog said, judging which words are acceptable and which are not is a case-by-case job for the moderators, used in the wrong contex and you can make damn near any word into an offencive comment.
