Just Want To Know...

Is it considered okay to tell someone to "Fuck off you ass", etc if someone does not like your post? I would say that's rather an extreme way to react, regardless of whether or not your post was what the person expected/wanted. I, at least, did NOT use profanity in return, and wouldn't use that kind of abusive language anyway. I won't name names. I'd just like to know if this is permissible, as I'm sure there are children under eighteen playing and their parents might not approve. Thanks.

I personally wouldn't think it was acceptable at all, and I am sure it is in violation of NS forum regulations (although slightly tipsy after New Years, and it would require waaaaay too much effort to check!!).

AP appears to be right.

AP, you're female, right?

Thanks DLE - I'm still working on getting to know the NS forum regs - getting them under my belt though!

And nope - I'm a British guy, but seem to come across slightly feminine - hmmm! My gf would approve - she's all for men showing their feminine side! ;)

DLE - if you don't mind me asking, are you a guy or a gal?

(Also - don't want to get this thread off topic - like I just have!)

Freebeez, the best advice I can give is to not mention any 'naughty' words at all...I think 'damn' and 'hell' are acceptable to a stretch (possibly wrong there) - but not anything ruder. As long as the language is kept clean, then the Mods will have a much easier time!

Also - there's no need to resort to bad language - it is just a game after all :)

Good. You can teach me next.

The "tipsy" comment was what threw me off.

If you promise not to tell anyone, I'll TG you.

Too late...

If used in RPs, I think you can get away with the more offensive words. I know several have. I save their usage for when I really need an explitive.

Aye - off topic now...I hope someone other than DLE or me can get it back on! I will try after this post.

Good. You can teach me next.
Heh - oh it's going to take me a looong while! Actually - as you've been here for over a year, I'm quite scared now that I'll never get the hang of it!

Heh - aye, tipsy/drunk - same thing ;) I was trying to put the best possible light on it without coming across as a complete alcoholic!

Sure, you have my word.

Aye, I actually have used one once or twice in RPs...as long as they are not an attack on another player directly, then you should be ok.

I guess it really depends upon the situation; as long as you are clear of the NS forum Regs, and feel you can twist the rules without the Mods throwing the book at you, then it is totally up to you! However, be warned! If the NS Mods haven't been given their donation of whiskey chocolates by all offending Nations, they tend to get a little upset :)

No, honestly, stick to the NS rules and formulate your posts around them! A winning combination!

Actually, I don't use anything worse than "hell", "damn", and (very seldom) "bullshit". It WAS in one of the RPG fora, though. I'd commented on the author's boasting that women could be "cured" of feminism by (ahem) really-good-sex (HE used another expression), and he seemed to take offense. I just said "Bye, kid" at the end. This old broad can handle profanity/obscenity---it's just I worry about the kids, because I've noticed a lot of times that using such language can lead to violence. Not always, of course; but it does seem as if Road Rage has spread to other areas of life, and it bothers me.

Aye Free, I'd agree with you there.

Public forums are accessible to all peoples and, whilst we should be tolerant of other peoples opinions and beliefs, I personally don't agree with people using profanities on the boards. I swear when I need to in RL (actually, if I'm honest, quite frequently!!) but I don't bring it onto the boards because not everyone here likes it/wants to read it.

Again though, it's all in context.

If in an RP, the Black Hawk 'copter carrying the President of a Nation is shot down, it is very unlikely that the Vice President would just say 'Oh Fiddlesticks'. I guess that there it would be acceptable to say something stronger.

Places where swearing most definately is not acceptable are in the boards generally (eg, flaming). I mean, it wouldn't go down terribly well if I started a post saying 'Fu** it - I hate cheese'

I mean, how random would that be!

If you want though, and it is up to you, you can report the offender and the offending post here and let the Mods make a decision. :)
