I recieved a TG from The Colony of Potenate asking me to go to a certain website. I looked at the google cache and it appeared to be selling yoga products. He is a 5 million nation.

He also spammed Goobergunchia.

Come to think of it, I got this:

I think they've got some cool stuff. Let me know what you think.

I didn't see it as spam, but it may help in this particular case.

Yup, i had those too from Kovalev :(

He apoligised for them though but if more people are getting those it's clearly a spammer.

A single spammer is using multiple puppets to send out these telegrams. All incidents should be reported to the Getting Help page.

Just to add my name to the list, I got spammed with what appeared to be an automessage from nemnwhop356 with the exact same text as someone has posted here before.

EDIT: sorry, didn't read down to the part where Cog said to report this in Getting Help.

If the guy has only small Nations (depends on the size of his major Nations...if they are relatively large, then he should know better!) - but perhaps only a stern warning and a slap on the wrist from a Mod would suffice.

Of course, I have (very!!) limited experience in these matters, and that is only my two pennies worth! I'm sure the Mods will know how to handle this :)

Reppy and I deleted about 200 puppets earlier today. This is a spam attack, so, no, we're not going to just toss out a warning.

200 puppets?!? whoa!!

Ok - I no longer support my earlier position of just a warning, bring the book down on this guy!

There are bots that can register to sites for spamming/advertising purposes, but I can't immagine bots that create nations :p

I saw all those puppets being deleted, did they all say live free or die in their motto?

I got the same TG as well.

Found this one amusing (already deadened nation, so I'm not going to bother reporting it):

Aye, walked right into a blunder there by sending that as a TG!

I didn't get around to leaving a message in getting help, but I sure as hell left the spam in my telegram box ... feel free to sneak a peak in Mikitivity's box if you want an additional example of the spam massage.

I'll delete it later tonight though. :)

I've seen them on other forums on other sites, they usually advertise pr0n.

I have a botfilter installed. Only a regular Googlebot may pass, but not the Mediapartners-Google, EmailSiphon, EmailCollector, CherryPicker and about 30 others.

Oh, we know what it looks like. No need to hang on to it if the sender's been toasted.

Nation is deadified, as it can't be found.

I've been speaking to the mods on IRC, and the offender is a nation-producing script thing. Unfortunately, it's struck at such a time that the only Mods avaliable are The Most Glorious Hack and GMC Military Arms, and neither of them can IP ban the offender. They've been deleting individual nations manually - Hack has been working at it for over four hours now.

This is, obviously, a rather rotten way to spend one's New Year's Day, and they deserve all the support we can give them. Unfortunately, that isn't much, but I'm hoping our goodwill and wishes help their morale somewhat.

I've been recieving the spam as well. The point isn't that the person has been deleted. They can easily create another account and continue the process. I reckon the only way to stop it is to limit the number of t-grams you can send in a given time frame.
Tsaraine
01-01-2005, 11:08
While that would indeed help, I think the main problem now is that the script is creating nations about as fast as they can delete them; there should definitely be a limit as to how many nations you can create in a single time.

Unfortunately, code-related issues are the province of Salusa_Secundus, who is not here at present.

Hmmm - I don't know, because when I'm advertising for new Nations to come join my region, I create a generic TG and send it to all of them. There's already a time-delay in existance...
