Archive "Repeal: The 40 Hour Workweek"?

Since the original "The 40 Hour Workweek" resolution was the closest UN vote, passing by a 110 vote margin, and since the repeal attempt this past weekend was:

- The first failed repeal attempt, &
- The first non [violet] "encouraged" repeal.

I'd like to recommend that the debate be added to the NationStates archive.

Furthermore, the thread will accurate protray the level of off site telegramming that was going on along-side the debate. Without the massive telegramming and off-site activity, I seriously doubt that the repeal would have failed. I think this is a worthy "watershed" event in NationStates history.

Danke,
-Michael
p.s. I've created a short note on the UNA archive and will upload the updated pdfs tonight. If Fris and Goober don't beat me to a NSWiki history, I think I was poking around enough of the key off-site debates that I may be able to fill in a fair background of what happened (and I'll be sure to ask Leg-ends and Free Soviets to look over whatever I write up for NSWiki).

Goober already posted Repeal "The 40 Hour Workweek" (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Repeal_%22The_40_Hour_Workweek%22_%28failed%29) on the wiki, but there's plenty of space to add.

I like the idea of Archiving the forum topic (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=381307) as well. The archive shouldn't be entirely about Mod retirements and presidential debates, which is about all that's been added lately.

Yup, I archived the original resolution's thread so I've archived this, too.

Well. Now we have an interesting topic to point to whenever it comes up again.

Well, the point is this is fairly unique, so the idea is something like it won't come up again.

But we all know it will...

:) First, I agree with you on both counts, but my justification for asking for this to be archived (thanks Myrth), wasn't that it was a special debate due to the resolution or repeal, but rather it was as I pointed out earlier. The first repeal of a resolution that failed, the first repeal of a resolution that was not Max's "test" resolution, in other words no other player created nations have had to see something they've fought for come up to a vote, and finally the voting associated with this resolution and the previous one were down to the wire.

About once or twice a month some newbie comes into the United Nations forum and declares the UN unfit because it never votes down resolutions, when in fact this is happening with growing regularity (though I'm not worried yet). I think the archive is a place for what I'd call "benchmark" or "watershed" events played out in NationStates.

Moderators retiring are certainly threads that should go there, and the Presidential debate reactions too -- because so many General forum discussions were all focused on the same real world event at the same time. I would imagine that if the board were around for another 2001.9.11 event, that the initial reactions to that might be archived as well. Anyway, this weekend's thread is only a small reflection of what IMHO was a significant way the NS UN will evolve.

As an aside, I'm still amazed that Leg-ends was able to pull together over 145 endorsements for that particular repeal. I had been guessing that euthanasia, prostitution, or abortion would be revisited long before the 40-Hour Workweek. And I've seen my surprise echoed by other long-time players. In any event, I think this is most certainly a significant event, but I wouldn't argue that all repeals or anything related to workweeks is instant archive quality material ... we'll just have to wait and see! :)

Yes, yes, I understand your justification. Wow, was that some sort of...erm...proof that you agree with me?
