NOT my post
I was just scanning some of the threads and found this post.
http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=7290703&postcount=47
I did not post this and no one else has been on this computer. What do I do and have there been any other posts in my name?
OK, I just did a search and this is the only post I didn't make.

Mods can check the IP adress on that post, and determine if it is made from your adress. If there is another computer in your house, it might as well came from that one. If there isn't any, than your computer is the only option left, if IP adresses are the same.
Erm, were you stoned? Drunk?
It's only my husband and myself in this house, the dogs aren't computer literate, my husband is outside blowing leaves, and we have only the one computer. And, no, I don't drink or do drugs. I had just been working on some stuff I brought home from the office, decided to take a break, and I found it.
This post isn't even in my grammatical style.
The post does indeed come from another IP address. I'll have this matter looked into.
What is your husband's nation?

He's Pedie, but I don't think he has posted on here in quite a while.

Thank you very much. When I saw that I went into a panic for fear this person would get out of line. If you need any information, please feel free to email me. Again, thank you.

That is the IP I am seeing. I think your husband mistakenly post through your nation.
This is interesting. I just did a forum search for the last time my husband, Pedie, posted, and it came up with one of my posts.

He wasn't even in the house. How and why is the system mixing us up? Since he wasn't on the computer and I didn't make this post, could the system also be scrambling us up with another user?
Myrth, I'm dumb as a rock on this whole IP thing. Do Pedie and I have different IPs on the same computer? If I post from my computer at work does that show another IP? Pedie has also posted from my office computer. In other words, do I need to call security and see if someone (like the janitor) is on my office computer?

If you log in from your home computer, providing there is only one connection to the internet, you and your husband will have only one IP address (make sure you both don't join the UN). But if you post from work, that will have a different IP address, and should you have had the "Remember Me" setting set to yes, then should someone else go on this work computer, they could have access to your NationStates game and forum account.
Someone may have done just this.

Each Internet connection has a different IP. If you're both using the same computer, you'll both have the same IP.
Your work computer will have a different IP to your home computer. I'm seeing that you've each used two computers - I'm guessing the one at home and the one at work.

This is Pedie. We just have one internet connection at home. She is calling security to check her office now. She has a lot of confidential stuff on her work computer and this might have just shown that someone is getting into it. Thanks.

My explanation was better :p

I just called security to check my office (assuming they're not the ones on my computer). So the post I didn't make came from the IP other than the one I'm using now? At this point I'm not so much concerned that someone is posting in my name as that there is an unauthorized person on my office computer.

I'd advise you set the "Remember Me" setting to "No", on both computers, and if you can, and if you need to, manually delete the cookies (I hve had to do this on a few occasions).
Preferably at work, as it' s the cookies there that would allow anybody at work to access your nation.

I stupidly assumed that since my office is kept locked and only security and maintenance have keys, that it would be secure. Well, we all know what they say about ass-u-me.

Yeah. I don't see why someone would presumably risk being fired and, depending on what you have in there, prosecution, to access your NS file.
Was it your homepage, or high up in your Favorites/Bookmarks? I'm just thinking maybe they wanted to do something else but notcied this and just wanted to cause some trouble while they were there?

It's in my misc folder of bookmarks. I'm the accountant and administer the funds for an MPO, so you can just about imagine what else I have in that computer. I doubt that they could get past the passwords to our fund accounting software, but at least I now know that someone is on it without my permission. I'll just ask our network guy to lock my computer down tight. Security says no one was in our offices when they got there, so whoever it was is gone.

Ok. It's been my understanding from what you have said that you may be on holiday for Christmas and thus can't get on. Is this so?

No, I'm off on the weekends and am at home. Our offices are located in a government building and are closed so no one should be in there. I live about 20 miles from the office so having security handle it was the quickest and no doubt the safest.

You said your husband posted from your work computer - that's what the evidence I can see shows. He just mistakenly posted in your name.

Gee, I wonder how long you're going to last around here...

He has posted from that computer in the past. We're both at home so it had to be someone else accessing it. I'll take it up with IS in the morning and see what they can do to take my computer off the network when I'm not there. Thanks for helping find out we had a problem we weren't aware of.

Well, shoot, I'm sorry. I didn't even notice the date. All that panic and fuss for nothing. Well, thanks again, and I guess you can go back to handling real issues. I'm still gonna have them pull my computer off the network at night though.
