Italian Korea

I got this telegram earlier today:
~
Hello Italian Korea,

I am an administrator of NationStates writing you to inform you that you are using an inappropriate nation motto. You are requested to make adjustments otherwise your nation will be deleted. Please do not overlook this issue.

Do not reply to this telegram
From: (edited out)
~

but i checked (edited out) and it only had 5 million people (aka a new nation) so was it ok of me to ignore that telegram? i dont think it was valid but i dont wanna lose my nation...

That wasn't an admin, a admin/mod would just change/delete it. Keep the telegram, a mod will sort it out as posing as admin is illegal.

Also edit out the name of the nation who sent the TM.

Also edit out the name of the nation who sent the TM.

How in the hell does that help us?

It's policy with suspected UN multis, not telegrams.

ack.

I assumed he meant edit it out right here in this thread. I left the name in when i made the request, though, so you should know who it is. He's threatened to delete me on the 1st of january... (why wait til then?) and said he had been employed by nationstates (but they dont hire ppl, the mods are volunteers arent they?). otherwise the grammar was perfect.

(the "impersonator" is) in the region of "administration". i'm a bit scared that i guessed wrong...

Major point here is if a real mod found you had an illegal motto you'd just find it blanked or changed with a warning telegram, not this ridiculous 'Change your motto or I'll delete you in January' dance.

How in the hell does that help us?

Last I heard, you mod's had the ability to check telegrams ;) You don't NEED names...

It's policy with suspected UN multis, not telegrams.

I heard it's "innocent till proven guilty", why should that only mean suspected UN multies...?

Only a mod can confirm that a player is multiing, but the telegram recipient knows he got the telegram, and from whom. What more proof is needed?

The mods still need to check the TM to see if the claim is true, unlikely someone will make it up, but still. There is no need to post a nations name, just in case it isn't true for x, y or z reasons.

If "Italian Korea" had deleted the TM, which I didn't know if he/she had or not at the time of my initial post, then it would have been a baseless claim which is only bad towards the player accused.

I highly doubt that "Italian Korea" was making the whole story up [edit-especially as the accused nation isn't in existence anymore[/edit], but honestly, better safer than sorry, eh?

Only UN multi accusations need be censored.

When I started editing out names of the accused, it was only intended to encompass those thought to be multies as there is no direct evidence any regular player can find.

When it comes to illegal flags and such, there is nothing wrong with calling out the name in the forums as it's readily visible to everyone and as such is known for a fact, whereas multi accusations are mere speculation.

There ya have it ;)

I disagree with the logic behind it, but sure enough, I will follow it. Sorted.

I know this was sorted a few hours ago, but there is one very important thing to note:

Any nation which is a (Nationstates) Moderator or Admin will have a suitable little sign saying such before their nation name. Always.

So if a nation TGs you claiming to be a Mod or an Admin but doesn't have the little sign, report it immediately.

Well, that will be true as soon as I get around to installing a little graphic for myself.

Most of the time, moderators send me messages in black, without a link to a nation. No fancy stuff, and sometimes a bit on the rude side, completely stripped of politenesses and formalities.

And the nation name (without link!) is something like NationStates Moderator Team... No mod will send you warning using his own nation.

We don't mean to be rude. We're just trying to work quickly and explain things plainly so that there is no confusion. So yes, we do often drop the politeness and formalities. They both have a tendancy to make things take longer and to confuse the facts.
