I have played games like this that check the computer ip and id and have had me and my brother banned, for "cheating" would we both be allowed to play or will both acounts be closed down?

If you both join the UN, then the situation becomes tricky, and the Mods may delete one or both nations for "UN multi-ing". However, if one or both don't join, there's nothing wrong.

No trick about it. Two UN accounts on one computer and IP address = both kicked out of the UN.

One may join, or neither.

Nations generally are not deleted for multi-ing, unless they show a pattern of multi-ing or have abused the rules in some other way.

Not from the same computer and IP address, no.

I think it's worth noting that even if you sign up from two seperate computers, using both accounts (UN) from the same computer is also likely gonna have you kicked out.

Also correct. If you sign up from different computers, but start sharing a computer later, then you'll come up as UN multies.

when my dad gets home from work he has a laptop, which connects to our network would we be allowed to use the laptop and this computer from the network or would they still be deleleted?

Assuming you use a LAN Router, the IP address will be the same. I don't know whether the IP is the only thing checked, but if so, logically the same LAN would count as the same computer.

ok it was worth a try was'nt it?

Suppose so. As long as you were VERY careful about doing it, if it worked.

Similarly, Schools that have their own servers all share the same IP address, and as such, UN members should use caution when logging in at school. However, the mods can often tell when an IP has an educational source, and factor that into their judgments.

It's not the only thing checked.

If you and your brother have DIFFERENT email addresses, it probably won't be a problem. My daughter and I used the same PC for several months, and both of us were UN members (I no longer am) - and both of us had our own email address. It was never a problem.

However, when I tried to sign up my puppet with the UN (same email address), that was not allowed.

On networks: Having more than one UN nation in the same network is not a good idea. Depending on your router configuration [as mentioned earlier], chances are the accounts will show as multis. Even if the IPs differ, we have other methods at our disposal as well [also mentioned earlier]. This is the reason why things like IP anonymizers don't circumvent our scans.

On .edu addresses: School addresses are a tricky issue, and it's one of the things I hope to codify by possibly recording a list of rules for the moderation staff. I myself do not bother [in most cases] to check for an .edu address, on account of the fact that if we start making exceptions for it, then UN multis will just take to creating and logging into their nations at school, which will only serve to add a new problem. Granted, there are a number of instances where a misunderstanding occurs, but it seems to be present in only a small minority of cases.

Had Melkor noticed this post he probably would have corrected you. This is why it's dangerous for non-mods to give authoritative answers, because this is specifically noted as "not OK". All this means is that nobody ever did a multi scan on your nation, so you and your daughter didn't get caught.

A mod needs to answer this point specifically, as my answer is most assuredly not definitive ... but I advise other nations to wait until it IS addressed before following Snub Nose 38's advice.

I believe it would be a no. And like Fris said, do not follow Snub's advice.

I have many friends that have nations that are UN members.
If i ever log in (maybe only once in a whole month) with my nation from their computer, would i get kicked from the UN or something?

thanks! =)

You are most likely correct. Don't do it.

Wrong. Very wrong. Many people operate under this assumption, thinking that listing different emails will keep you safe from multi scans. The reason it was never a problem was likely because we never ran a UN check on you.

Bottom line: If anyone else is using the same computer as you, and both are UN accounts, both of you wil be ejected if we find you.

Also, every UN nation has a unique e-mail address. The game is hard coded to prevent multiple nations from joining with the same e-mail address.

This may be wrong now, but for several months last spring it worked.
