Locking threads unjustly

Can a mod lock any threads s/he sees fit?
Steph, did you consult the other mods before locking the Arafat threads?
If so, please let me know when I can post my views about him?
And also, if it was Bin Laden, would you have asked to show some respect for the dead? I feel much more strongly about Arafat than I do about Bin Laden. You're only allowing people to see one side of the story, and that isn't right. Any anti-Arafat comments instantly get the thread locked.

NOTE: This is merely intended for me to recieve answers, not to offend, or bait.

I agree. Mod power to close threads seems a little unclear. Could somone please explain it. Certainly no Mod should have the right to just close something down if he doesnt like the look of it, there should be clear guidelines and certianly political feelings should not come into it

mods seem to lock threads that violate the sites tos, or those that are heading in that direction, or are of a topic that normaly heads that way

I have made it perfectly clear. The same way the American elections were handled by the mods last week, so will Arafat's death. You could wait till he's cold before you start jumping for joy. It's really rather sickening to read. It's my judgement and you are just going to have to live with it. You want to bash the dude who isn't even cold yet, I think your feelings will be the same in a week. Believe it or not Arafat wasn't Satan to every one and we do have Arab posters who thought he was actually a hero. I'm a white woman from Canada who thought he had great moments in his life. Arafat just died. Leave it alone, I'm standing by my ruling and no matter what you say or complain, it will not change.
