Descriptive Violence

I am new, and with all new people I am not sure what the acceptable limits are, or a whole bunch of other things. :D

My concern was that I am writing a thread, and when getting to some details of the actions... it suddenly occured to me that this may not be appropriate. Not that it is anything you wouldn't see on TV at primetime...

But still I don't want to describe an evil persons action then find that I crossed a line that I didn't know existed.

If you could help me understand what a reasonable limitation on descriptive violence would be I would be appreciative.

Thanks for clarification,
Empress of Dhulus

We seriously frown on material that, in the American media, would get an NC-17 rating. We do allow R rated stuff provided that it is labeled as such in the topic title and it has serious literary value.

If we find descriptions of explicit violence and we judge that it's just violence for the sake for violence, then we will delete the topic and issue an official warning.

Recommendation: if you really want to post it, send the post in it's entirety to a mod first. If they approve it, you can assume that all of the mods will agree, and post it as is. Should they say no, however, DO NOT try another mod. This will severly annoy all of the mods - not a good idea.

If you do this, don't send it to their TM inbox, that'll annoy 'em (so I hear *cough*Melkor*cough*.)

Send it via the getting help page OR to one of the mods email addresses (found in sticky.)

Good point. I think that's in the "How to become a mod, and what we do" thread.

I have discussed this with the other Moderators.

At this point, our official position is that we are too busy to review this kind of stuff. We don't have time to look over every single risque piece of writing that someone dreams up. If you post it, if you deliberately decide to toe the line, then you do so entirely at your own risk.

If we investiagte later and decide that it's inappropriate, then you will be warned. We will not give you an advance opinion because it's not important enough to warrant our time. If you are in doubt, then scrap it.

I reiterate: We will not review risque roleplays in advance; it is too much time for too little benefit. However, we will warn people for inappropriate roleplays, forumbanning or deleting where necessary.

My concern was not to get a pass on questionable content, but to gain a understanding of what is considered approrpriate for the group. PG-13 max for all intents and purposes I gather.

I have no intention of drawing upon images of gratuidous vilence for it's own sake, or at all. There are lesser places where that kind of content is acceptable, and I have no urge to dwel in that... er... stuff.

But I do like to consistently act with a bit of realism for drama and moral clarity in what I do. Don't think that I ever wanted to teeter around the limits, I just want to not draw too much ire if I choose a less pleasant path for characters that would interest me. That is the last thing that i could want to engage in.

Thanks for the replies. I am quite astounded by the response time, and will take the advice to heart. And no, that doesn't mean that I am going to be constantly on the top of the moderator watch list... I just want to stay out of trouble when I DO know better. :D
