A couple of days ago, I posted a UN submission that was deemed 'offensive' and was deleted. I got myself ejected from the UN.

I opened a thread in this Moderation forum querying this decision and started getting unhelpful replies from Mods. They took a very narrow interpretation of the rules - OK, fair enough.

The friends who I work with also posted to help me out (we play in the same region). We then start getting rude emails from a mod called Myrth who accuses us of cheating and then closes the thread.

Has anyone else had dealing with this Moderator? Have you found them to be, as we did, spiteful, bullying and peremptory? If you have, please post here because I would be interested to know about other people's experiences.

I should also add, having just referred back to this thread, that Myrth has just deleted all his own posts accusing me and others of cheating - as well as my arguments in which, without any flaming or abuse, I tried to argue without success that my original post was not offensive?

He didn't delete his own posts; they're there with all of yours, as well.

If you want to file a complaint, e-mail admin@nationstates.net, but many have tried and all have failed.

Myrth is one of the best moderators we have, it's unlikely that your claims of injustice are plausible.

Rude e-mails? Highly unlikely, and quite the serious charge.

Also, I would ask, if you and your "friends" all play on a LAN (as you state in the locked thread), why are you all using the same computer? A LAN implies multiple computers...

That's funny, because I don't see any deleted threads there; I see the posts that are locked - which if you are referring to that - well, then, you don't know what deleting posts looks like. It leaves trace evidence.

Yes, because we already knew this and you are in violation of NS rules. You cannot have more than one UN nation and there's no way to actually tell if you're who you say you are from a computer screen without physically meeting "all" of you.

It doesn't matter if you have a legitimate reason or are 3 different people. The mods can't come and physically check you out, so you're not allowed to have more than 1 nation in the UN.

And Myrth was not being unreasonable in the other thread. If 2 moderators are agreeing with each other, chances are very slim that you're in the right.

Btw I don’t think lan lines have the same IP if your hooked up to a router you would all have different IP’s and gateways

Did you not read the thread I linked you to? The thread by [violet], the NationStates admin? The admin who runs this game according to how Max Barry wants it run? If you don't like the way this game is run, you are of course entitled to a full refund.

That's how I found those links..... They *are* there. Count off the numbers. Is 20 just mysteriously missing or something? Because if it was deleted I believe the numbers would move too.

Assuming that they are 3 different people, I think they're really, really frustrated. Which is understandable. But they also need to accept that they broke the rules and move on.

If they can't, then they should stop playing. But hopefully they can accept it.

What Violet says is that there is no way to check. What he doesn't say is that Moderators will be chippy bores who will immediately assume - and accuse - the players of the game they are moderating are cheats.

My only satisfaction is that you don't get paid for moderation so, I suppose, being unpleasant online is how you get off. Good enough for me.

Well, you can't be in the UN anymore with Propter Hoc, you'd have to create a new nation to do that, which you're more than allowed to so long as you don't have more than one person in the UN at a time.

I suppose there is always an element of any online game who will brown nose to a mod however rude and abusive that mod is.

I don't need to suck up. I know the rules on my own, unlike others, who try to work their way around them.

Odd ... with all the accusations of rudeness and such, the only one I can see really exhibiting poor ettiquite and manners is ... you guessed it, Propter Hoc.

Immediately with accusations, name-calling, baseless assumptions and spite, even to those folks trying to be of assistance.

Look. It's a simple concept. Max sets the rules. He chooses the mods to do their best to enforce those rules. They're human, as imperfect as the rest of us, but I've seen them bust their asses time and again to do their best to uphold the rules, despite any personal opinions one way or another. It isn't as though they're getting paid to do this, or as if they've nothing better to do with their time. In addition, these are rules we all agree to upon creating a nation to play on this game - which amazingly enough, we are required to pay NOTHING to enjoy. If you cannot accept that, perhaps you need to re-evaluate your play here.

You say the mods have their positions so they can lord it over the rest of us? I laugh, and say a good many folks on here use their annonimity to flame, harrass, pester and bait so that they can feel some measure of power themselves, or cater to that martyr syndrome they secretly (or not so secretly) have, or use this medium to rail against the OMG INJUSTICE INHERENT IN THE SYSTEM as compensation for all those areas of their life where such ranting isn't possible or available. Stick it to the man, baby!

Anyways. Again, I find it amusing that the vast majority of NS manages to get along just fine without ever running afoul of required mod action, and that those that do, of course, tend to blame everyone but themselves, use every excuse in the book as to why they ought to be treated differently from the other offenders, and almost without fail, resort to the sorts of tactics we've seen here, or worse.

If you think I exaggerate, read back over the histories and all. I think you'll find that when an honest mistake or misunderstanding has been brought to light, the mods have done all they could to remedy that within their power as well. So much for claims of unfairness.

I think I've rambled on long enough. Have fun railing at the fates, or ridiculing the whiners - whichever side of the fence you're on. I've got some motivation to find.

Are we allowed to raise such issues in these forums? When I have done so, the Mod in question closes the threads down though they contain only moderate language and evidence of what seems to be breaches of any normal Mod code - for example, abuse, posting private information and unwarranted accusations of cheating.

If you have any stories of this kind of behaviour, please post them here so Max, when he visits, or jolt administrators can judge for themselves. Enjoy.

1) Inviting people to "post your stories" is trolling. Trolling in Moderation is not wise.

2) Reposting locked threads, especially in Moderation, is not wise.

3) Protesting innocence once guilt has been proved, is not wise.

4) Jolt admin have little or no control here. We rent server space. This is our territory.

If you still feel you have a complaint, e-mail admin@nationstates.net and make no further mention of your accusations here. If you do, I'm loading your nation in both the Jolt and NS Mod Centres.
