Are Moderation standards/rules being relaxed?

I've been wondering recently if the moderators are relaxing standards. Temporary forum bans seem to be fairly new. And I've seen a number of flamey posts that don't get official warnings where they might once have.
I know there was something of a relaxation of the rules regarding language when we moved to Jolt ("fuck" is acceptable now where it once was not).

Has there been a relaxation of rules in other areas such as spam and flaming.

If so, was there an announcement made that I missed?

If not, is it just my imagination that the rules are not being as strictly enforced?

No ill intent here or questioning of the mods, just asking for a clarification of the current rules. Thank you.)

I am Relaxed and I am no moderator. I can't tell if the moderators are me, but I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary, lately :p

It looks to me like the mods aren't doing as much patrolling as they used to be, no. Usually they will act on one of the above sitations if they are asked to, but not of thier own initiative. I've only seen a few cases where they have taken action on their own, usually when it's becoming a major crisis.

Recently I posted something a link to a flamy thread that would have been closed not all that long ago. The mod who looked at it simply posted don't flame. The poster who started it has already had several threads locked, but AFAIK no warnings. He would have been DEATed even a few months ago with his record.

Heh - it actually reminds me quite a bit more of the old NationStates days, which was just about the right amount IMHO. Although it's still not even close to where it was before the Ruling on the General Forum ;).

Well, some would say Myrth has become overzealous in his mod duties from recent threads in this here forum. I'm not one of those, but, I think when the players see only one moderator seemingly to act on everything, it creates a situation where one side thinks not enough is being done and another thinks too much is being done.

I'd have to say that with the Jolt move, the enforcement is becoming slower, but the rules are becoming more constricting.

Adding Katgatistan and Unfree People in the past, what, month isn't enough?

What you mean is that it needs more United White Front blood. Nope. Not gonna happen.

I seem to be taking the brunt of the enforcement. :headbang:

That's because you're doing the brunt of rule-breaking.

Temporary forums bans aren't new, they're just easier to apply in Jolt, and Forum Mods are able to do them. Previously, forum banning a nation required access to the Mod Centre. Now a Mod, any Mod, can access the Jolt Forums Mod Control Panel and institute a forum ban. Also, the interface allows us to set how long the ban lasts.

Before, if someone was banned for, say, 2 weeks, a Game Mod would have to ban the person, and then remember to manually lift the ban in 2 weeks. Now, any mod can set the ban and it will automatically lift. The ease of use probably has a lot to do with them being used more frequently.

Absolutely.

But.... erm...... you're not looking for new mods, right? :p
