Getting help from the Mods [READ BEFORE POSTING!]

If someone's cheating or violating rules and you need the help of the game mods: Visit the "Getting Help" page here (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/page=help). It'll be a lot more convenient for us if you post your request here instead of making a thread on the forum.

There are several types of requests we take on the "Getting Help" page listed there; if there is no suitable category for your request, just select 'Other.' If you need a very quick, urgent response (i.e. a serial spammer of some kind, a request for a locking, etc.), then posting in this forum may be best. However, if you are requesting a scan for UN multis or reporting a frequent TG griefer or offensive flag, the Getting Help page is your best bet.

Also, I'd just like to stick in a minor edit:

While sending mods TMs may seem like it would get the job done faster [since its a direct line of communication with the mod, instead of a request form which can take a while to get to], this isn't the case. I con't speak for everyone else, but I tend to completely ignore TM requests for moderator intervention

Please don't do it, It clogs up my inbox with messages that should be displayed elsewhere.

Appendix #2:

If you are using the "Getting Help" center to submit a complaint regarding a flamebait telegram, do not delete the telegram. If you delete it, we will have a difficult time fulfilling your request.

Nation Resurrection Requests

This comes up a lot, so I'm gonna put it as an announcement.

If you want to have a nation ressurected, simply file a request at the Getting Help Page (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/page=help).

You will only need to list the name of the nation. That's it.

We Do NOT Need The Password.

Posting in Moderation might get your nation ressurected, but we really prefer that you go through the Getting Help Page (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/page=help).

Thank you.

Also, if your nation was deleted for cheating, flaming, or any other violation of the rules, don't hold your breath. This will return nations lost to inactivity. We aren't in the habit of returning intentionally deleted nations.

A mod also mentioned once that nations with silly names would not be resurrected even if they had simply ceased to exist... 'Wanking Baboons' sticks out most clearly in mind... :)

I think that's more a case of "If we would have deleted the nation, but never got around to it, we ain't gonna bring it back."

Appendix #3:

While we appreciate that players sometimes want to help us find UN multies, please do not send a request that we UN sweep a region. Sweeping an entire region for multies can be a very time-consuming task, especially for regions with more than ten or so people in them. A single mod can sweep a region of about 40 or so people, but it can take over an hour. Larger regions require two or more of the game mods to coordinate. (If this indicates anything, it took three game moderators more than an hour and a half to sweep a region of roughly 300 nations for UN multies.)

So when you suspect multies, please submit the name(s) of the nation(s) you suspect to be multies. Do not ask us to sweep a region.

Contacting the Moderators via IRC

Well, as suggested in this thread, (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=338014) a public Moderator IRC channel has been set up.
As with all things IRC, you'll need an IRC client such as mIRC (http://mirc.com/) to connect to it. You'll need to enter irc.esper.net as the server, and type /join #themodcave to get in. Or click here: irc://irc.esper.net/themodcave

Once you're in, you'll be greeted with a message informing you of the rules.
For those of you who already use Espernet, you'll recognise the system as being identical to that used by the IRCops in #dragonweyr.
Make your request for NationStates Moderator intervention there, and link to the appropriate thread if applicable. Forum and game moderation requests are welcome. Wait for a moderator to respond, and then please /part the channel when it's been dealt with.
Please don't chat or idle in the channel, mod requests only.

Thanks! :)

Appendix #4:

I dont know if anyone really reads this thread, but it can't hurt. When submitting a request to review a possible region griefing it is NOT necessary to copy/paste the entire region page into the field. This makes the task very large on our screens and is very irritating as we are able to look up the region ourselves, just like anyone else. If you're concerned that the pertinent data will get bumped off, don't worry; we can still search the ejection logs by region, ejector, or ejectee. Copy/pasted regional pages are not valid as evidence anyway, as the complaintant is capable of editing it to say what he/she wants.

Appendix #5 - How to write an efficient, useful Getting Help report

Having just spent several hours tackling the tasklist, the thought occured to me that a lot of people don't reall yknow how to write the most effective Getting Help request possible. Hopefully I can shed some helpful insight on this.

Be clear!

When filing a report, make certain to keep it straight to the point. State what you're reporting, make sure to include the name(s) of the nation(s) involved, and any pertinent links.

Make sure you are logged into your nation or include contact information!

We can't let you know your dead nation has been revived if we don't have an email address or a current nation to contact! If you are logged in to a nation when you file a report, it shows in the tasklist as that nation filing the report, making it easy for us to respond to you if the need arises. This is usually only a problem with revive requests, but sometimes we get a complaint about stuff like abusive telegrams that are labeled in the tasklist as only an IP address that we can't act on because we don't know who's complaining!

DON'T copy and paste the entire region page!

As Melkor said, we can check the region just like everybody else, and search player logs for information. If you are worried about a message being scrolled off, get it confirmed by a forum mod, or copy and paste ONLY THE PERTINENT INFORMATION! We don't need to see the entire UN ranking, WFE, regional happenings, and regional board in the tasklist! This just takes up space and makes it harder for us to find the complaint in the report!

Be polite!

We're not asking for people to kiss up to us in tasklist reports, but basic courtesy goes a long way toward getting your task handled quickly. The fastest way to get your complaint flat-out ignored is to flame or be otherwise obnoxious in your request. But on the flip side, we don't want lots of buttkissing either- it just clutters your report.

Some examples of good Getting Help reports:

Task #XXXXX
Newnation

Hi, I couldn't login for awhile and my nation, Oldnation got deleted. Could you please revive it?

Task #XXXXY
Snitchnation

I think Nation A and Nation B are UN Multies. Would you check them?

Invader Z
Griefernation X
