Why do you want it locked? Don't you believe in the marketplace of ideas? I mean the creator of the thread learned basic math functions. I like the forums being a debate front. It makes society interesting when it allows the clash of ideas.

Since Jolt allows user-customizable page length (I use 40/page), page count is no longer relevant. 1300 posts is clearer.

Also, since discussions have been heard concerning the the fact that purges are no longer needed, I'm wondering if topic length locks are even necessary. Is there a rationale for this? Anyone got a link to the discussion?

I generally use the 1300 post cap as a method of dealing with pointless spammy threads. It's unlikely I'll be enforcing it on sensible debate threads.

You do realise all locking it would achieve is to get another thread started by Tenete Traditions? So there'd be two fascist threads rather then one.

How come you people always talk about giving free speach to others, and when the opposition uses it you want to shut them down? The real thing is who cares if their is a fascist thread, its not like you have to look at it.

Hey, if our good friend TT doesn't make another thread to display his worldview and reasoning to the world of General at large, I'll make one for him.

...Oh please dont. Morbid curiosity drug me into reading the first few pages of that utter waste of webspace. Granted, there was good served in teaching math to an ignorant person who needed the help so desperately....but thats about it. I've been seeing more and more of these racist threads lately, and its quite honestly making me sick, and rather dissapointed in everyone here.

Come now, forbidding someone to say something simply because you disagree is the height of intellectual arrogance. You assume either you are so correct on an issue, such as rascism, that another viewpoint, however flawed or asinine, being presented is actually offensively ignorant, or you assume yourself to be so much more intelligent than the general population that you are the only one in the crowd who realises what a crock of crap the Neo-Nazis/Communists/Right -Wingers/Whatever Menace Opens Its Gaping Maw This Week To Spout Filth are cooking. Or, of course, both.

Fact remains, if the point they're making is obviously ridiculous, it will be immediately obvious to those around them, save those who already share this fallacious viewpoint, and are unlikely to be swayed by counterlogic. Such is the nature of fanaticism. And if it actually has some vague merit to it, such as a strong but controversial stance on cloning, abortion, or some other issue, then they have the right to a reasonable debate, rather than simply being shouted to silence.

If you're really worried, then recall the wisdom of Aristotle, who said "A silent man may be foolish, but none may prove him a fool until he opens his mouth to confirm it."

The mods have the right to punish and censor extreme comments within the context of the game per Max's wishes, thus, censorship is in effect and in full force within the context of the game.
