The Not a Mod Sign

Does this bother anyone but me? Maybe it's far too late at night, and I've had somewhat of a bad day, but that sign has bothered the @#$% out of me. It's like showing off your humility to the mods (if that makes sense). We KNOW you're not mods, that's why you don't have something that says moderator under your name. I mean, conceivably the purpose is to tell young nations that your words don't come from an actual mod, but the people who say this aren't the types of nations to deceive young nations with faulty advice anyhow...not even accidentally. Maybe we ought bold and enlargen the MODERATOR sign.

It's really more like a disclaimer, just so that you're on the safe side. Yes, sometimes it does seems kind of silly, but it's just one of those things.

Cog told me to do so some time ago so as not to confuse newbies who may not know that the titles represent who that person is on the forums.

Oh, but really, I can't see any major harm from new nations believing you're a mod when you're really not. I mean, you people who try and help the nations in the moderation section are all well-intentioned nations, and if you weren't you wouldn't be using that sign in the first place...

Really? That has the potential to cause problems. The little "not a mod" sign helps to stop any potential confusion.

It also may look as if you are trying to impersonate a moderator which is frowned upon, a lot!

Meh. I think its a bit eagle scout (http://www.winternet.com/~mikelr/flame64.html)ish to use the 'I'm not a mod, just helpful' sig...

Helping newbs is okay but the sig has a certain "look at me, I'm helpful!" air which indeed annoys me too if I am already in a bad mood.

It is there as a disclaimer because at one time there were some people wheo whined and complained about people answering questions who were not Mods, they tired to claim everyone who did was impersonating a Mod.

<--------- Not a mod

The sign tells the newbies to be careful with conclusions, and it tells a mod that I'm not impersonating anybody. It is just like a girlscout sign. We are not the police, but we really like to help you cross the road ma'am. We're just being good citizens, because the real moderators are very busy

Well, in my humble opinion these people are morons.
EDIT: To clarify: I mean the people who complain about people who are not mods helping other people. Thats just dumb and I really appreciate those helping out.

Not a moderator, not surprisingly

Tuesday Heights, Majesto, Enerica, and others are correct.

Impersonating a Moderator is a warnable offense on NationStates. Speaking as though you were a Moderator is included in this.

We Moderators appreciate it when ordinary players try to help out other ordinary players, but we want it kept clear when a Voice of Authority is or is not speaking.

I will split off the off-topic posts momentarily....

The split posts may be found here (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=155772).

Just please don't yell at/warn/DEAT us for "impersonating moderators" as has happened in the past... and it would be nice if the current "no not a mod sig" policy be made an across the board rule and stickied somewhere. I don't want to lose my nation because of differences of opinion/misunderstandings.

It won't be, read the other thread, GMC confirmed that any previous warnings for that are disregarded.

I've never bothered with the 'not a mod' sign. If you can't tell I'm not a mod, then you don't belong here. Just a disclaimer, I suppose. But if I think I need to make my non-moddiness clear to someone, then I'd mention it in the post.

I'd suggest stopping the use of "Phucking" as an allowable word as opposed to ;

<---Not a mod - But I play one on TV

One's just an outright slam on the rules - the other is just a tag.

JMHO.

Understood, it's just some of us were told to use the disclaimer, like myself.
