I have a question.

Lemme get this straight. We've banned word games, stupid answer/stupid question and story completion posts and are in the process of banning clubs/taverns/whatevers all for the sake of improving server performance. Yet, we can have umpteen threads running around general about which chicks are hot, or which guys are babes, where there's an excessive amount of image linking going on?

Something is not right here.

How are these threads any different from the ones that are being removed? In fact, aren't they more troublesome to the server since they require a huge amount of image processing?

I know this stance may not be popular, but good posters are leaving the game because of the recent bans which seem to be unfairly targetted.

I think, by and large, the mods do an excellent job and I completely understand how thankless a job it is. This whole recent business, though, just plain sucks and it has been handled in a very poor manner.

Images don't actually lag up the server much, as they're linked directly from the webserver they're on.
As we said, we're allowing idle chit-chat, it's just obvious post-whoring that we're cracking down on.

I think I understand the difference, although I must say it's a very fine line. I do have a further question, though. How are the multiple pages discussing the attributes of this or that personality any less "post-whoring" than word games? It's not a discussion. You can't "prove" someone is more attractive than someone else. It barely qualifies as chit chat since many of the post have little or nothing to do with any previous post. I guess my question is, where's the line and why was it drawn there?

Simple. Some chat is reasonably legitimate conversation. The topic may be decidedly shallow, but it is conversation of a sort. Some chat is post-whoring. No real subject, just random, repetitive rubbish interspersed with boasting about how high their postcounts are going. Experience allows people to tell the two apart at a glance. What we have done is rule against the most obvious form of post-whoring to be found in the General Forum - word games and variations. The line was drawn there, because after Forum 7, it is the biggest, most unmistakable source of spam out there.
