Before the delete...

OK, mods, please read the whole post before you decide to take action.

I have noticed today, that common things are being deleted as spam, split and made a mockery of, and even people being warned of trivial things.

Quote pyramids are against the rules, yes, but I have seen mods do worse than I did. On once occasion, I posted once, and it was split and deleted. The entire pyramid only consisted of about five or six quotes.

How many quotes are acceptable, because I have seen mods ignore far worse than what has gone on today...

Thankyou

I actually thought I read a post from a mod, in that thread, that said they would be cracking down on those things. So, I'm guessing that from this point on a safe number would be two. Two quotes.

The reason behind that, I think, would be the coming transfer to Jolt. I guess that on Jolt they'll be a lot less tolerant of things like that then they are here, and they're just 'weaning' us off of them.

I never saw the point of quote pyramids, to tell the truth. Any decent point can be made with just one quote, and if you want to respond to several points on the same topic, just make seperate quote boxes in the post.

Quote pyramids are illegal and will be removed. Thread hijacks are split out under Standard Operating Procedure. If they are a viable thread, they are renamed as such. If they are spam, they are deleted.

Question: What's the line between contextual quoting for the sake of clarity and quote-pyramids?

If it is contributing something to a complex and involved debate, 5 would be tolerated as an upper limit. If it is smileys and monosyllabic comments, they become actionable at that point. In the last few days, I have been routinely dealing with stuff which has exceeded those guidelines by a factor of two or three. As always, it is a case of common sense and due consideration.

Boil it down to the gist just like I did.

I guess that a thread that has naturally progressed onto a different topic will not be split? Or will it?

And are we allowed to hve "Discussion threads", so we don't have to fear about it being deleted while we talk about what-not

Hmm, that's quite a good point. They may be classed as 'spam'. :?

Define "discussion threads". If you mean threads like the Volcano of old, then those are (currently) fine. It's the stuff like "Last One To Post Here Wins", or "Do Anything To The Person Above You", or "3 Word Story" that we're targeting.

Oh no. They're word games, we mean discussion as in chat.

Debates which wander off-topic are rarely touched. Sometimes, we may split them, if the thread author objects to the tangent taken. Unless there is abusive content, they are never locked or deleted on these grounds. Debates are to be encouraged.

Chat is OK if kept within the confines of chat threads, and free of post-whoring and smiley / pyramid spam. The usual rules, of a lock at 65 pages, apply.

Word games and post-whoring threads of any type will be deleted.

A few dating back to last year? :? Not me personally, but once stuff is at 65 pages, locked and ancient history, it is the first thing to go in a purge. Everyone knows that, that's how all the dozens of Volcanos got toasted last year. This is all in the General Forum Announcement.
