I just came back after a week or two away....
my nation "Freefall" has somehow ceased to exist.
I'm a little annoyed at that - that's a billion+ people
who just disappeared! :(

It died of inactivity. That happens to any nation that doesn't log in for 28 days (60 if on Vacation Mode).
"Freefall" hasn't logged in in 53 days; that's much, much longer than a week.
I've resurrected it, but be aware that resurrection requests usually go to the "Getting Help" page (you can find a link in the "FAQ").
