A suggestion for the mods.

I am offering this suggestion to allow the mods a chance to relax. I thank you mods for all that you do. And hope that you will read this and not take it the wrong way. Keep up the good work. I am especially impressed with the latest revision of the rules, and Reploid has my highest gratitude for actually listening to regular players.
I always seem to read things like... "The mods so generously volunteer time from their hectic schedules" and such to praise mods and make them look better. If this is the case then why would you continually disagree with appointing new mods? If you guys are so busy then take some time off, get some new mods.
Its just silly, and makes your whole case about having such busy schedules and being so kind as to volunteer, totally irrelevant.
Thats like saying I need this and that, but I'm not going to do anything to get it. This case sounds like laziness, what is it for the mods issue? More mods = less people beneath them? Oh I dunno I doubt that one is it, but I'm sure theres something.
If I were max i'd be appointing mods left and right, as soon as I found a suitable person, bango your a mod. left and right. I don't know how many mods there are, but with the population of this game there should be at least 20 active ones. Considering time zone differences and such. Since they are all Volunteers, he's not gonna be out any cash for them.
Why make moderatorship such a prize posession? If you are all so overworked, why not? Let us remind ourselves that all the mods, even max barry, are people. People aren't perfect, and people aren't always fair. If you find those few people who can do the job well, then seize that opportunity and give them power. For who knows the next time this will happen.

Trying to find a mod is like running auditions for a movie. First, you need to set a base for your selection. Let's say for your movie, you need someone 5'7" to 6'2", with brown hair and blue eyes. This encompasses alot of people, making your choice very difficult. And there are other traits that must be matched. It can sometimes take months, years even, to find a candidate for anything, whether it be a job position, a movie role, or even the moderator of a game/forum.
Even the powers that be have someone peeking over their shoulders. Max needs to look after the mods, because as you said, no one is perfect. Between working time and personal time, I'm sure, out of personal experience, that Max is very overworked when he has to set aside time to check up on NationStates, update NationStates and the issues, and check on the Mods. Having even more mods would drive the poor guy nuts.
I think we have enough Mods at this timeeven though some mods are not exactly good at their jobs...
There's also the whole 'too many cooks spoil the broth' thing...

Also, most of the complaints that we get for not acting soon enough are in relation to things that only Game Moderators can do; which means we have to find someone acceptable to be a Forum Mod, and then wait a couple months to make sure they'll cut it as a GM. It's not an instant thing.
The other complaints we get are from people who want to know why their problem isn't solved within 3.7 seconds of their request. I've seen posts where a complaint is lodged at 1737, and a follow-up of "WHY THE HELL WON'T YOU DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS YOU BASTARDS!" comes in at 1739.
And, you know, occationally we aren't able to do anything (for instance, I'm at work now, so I can't access the Mod Centre currently). Unless 50% of the players were mods, these problems will always happen.

Then why not keep more forum mods handy and bump them to game mod status when needed and appropriate? This isn't claiming mods would be needed now, nor that even forum mods are needed. Just an observation that right now there's only one forum mod. If it takes long, planning ahead seems like a good idea.

That's a pretty damn sensible idea I say, more mods means less work for each mod.

actually i think we would have enough game mods if they were free from forum duties to a large extent. every forum has a problem with flame and misplaced posts, some more than others but it is the game mods who tend to clean up, as said we have only one forum mod.
i can think offhand of a half dozen well respected, experienced nations who would only be too happy to help out, why not let them?

There are 2 forum mods: TJ and TG (not at all intended)
As for the GMs, most of us handle forum issues because should a deletion be in order, or for quick deletion response, it's far easier for the Mod responding to make the DEAT then for an FM to attempt to get a GM to make a quick kill.

Could be only the left shift key is broke?

My left key was broken, I used the right one for the question mark because it would have messed the sentence up not to have it. Im not a great typer though and stopping to use the right one for every first word of a sentence is a little unwieldly.
Back on topic:  My apologies to TJ, Id forgotten. Still even with that, a couple of extra forum mods would help with the non-deleteable offenses like mistaking which forum to post in, lightweight stuff and for first time offenses if they were allowed issue official warnings. Though I can understand the reason of the "quick kill". (Im going to use that from now on :P )
