Query for Moderator Response only

05-04-2004, 09:17
Hello!

A friend of mine was Forum banned some months ago on NS for *thinks* flaming I think it was.... this person hasn't been told when the forum ban ends (we were under the impression it was for a fixed period of time).

Please can a Mod let me know if a forum ban IS for a fixed period of time or if it's permanent.

I'm posting on behalf of my friend for obvious reasons, as their nation was deleted recently , presumably for breaching this forum ban.

I'd rather Mods only replied to this, to avoid idle speculation.

I've refrained from posting the details, but if any Moderator would like to TM me, I'd be happy to provide more information.

Cheers

First, I'm not the one who deleted the nation in question.

Moving on; a cursory examination reveals that <nation> received a permanent Forum Ban for repeated flaming of the mods. Circumnavigating an existing Forum Ban is grounds for deletion of all nations.

Ahh. ok. Thanks for replying. We didn't realise it was permanent. I'll pass it on.

Just to clarify before I do lock this thread...

Forum Bans (not to be confused with Forum IP Bans) aren't always permanent. Oftentimes, a Forum Ban is only a week or two, however, there is minimal presidence for this, as it isn't used very frequently. Generally people either shape up, or are bad enough to warrent a straight-up deletion.

Forum Bans are generally used like a parent might use a "time out". It's a forced cool down period.

Forum IP Bans, for what it's worth, are a punishment that's a step beyond being deleted. Deleting kills one nation. Forum Banning bans one nation. Forum IP Bans ban, obviously, an entire IP address. It's just short of a full-fledged IP Ban.

And, in case you're wondering, [reploidproductions], [violet], and [dredd] can hand out Forum IP Bans. [violet] and [dredd] are the only ones who can do IP Bans. Any Game Moderator can issue a Forum Ban.

Should I take it that if my friend wanted to appeal against the permanancy of the ban, this should be done via the admin e-mail?

Either that, or by filing a request to the Getting Help page. <nation> was under a Forum Ban, which means it's reasonably easy to lift.

Heh, okay. I've got a pretty old CD single that says "Muse" across it, and I couldn't remember if that was the publisher or the band.

[Edit: Heh... that's right, the publisher is "Mute"]

Sorry to re-open this topic... this friend of mine appealed against the permanent forum ban and the appeal was unsuccesful (fair enough, I'm sure you had your reasons, I'm not arguing that point), however, my friends latest puppet was then deleted, even though (to the very best of my knowledge) she hadn't breached this forum ban.
