"Midnight" is a highly recognizable region for a certain age of nations that I used to run back in the day. Obviously this person remembers that.

Now...

I don't understand how I cannot use the nation's name of an older nation that has quit, but this person, whoever he is, can use the name of my old region to his own personal benefit.

Those involved with Midnight (and SARSA, which was also mentioned) have memories of those regions which shouldn't be messed with by this moron.

I'm rather upset that what he is doing is allowed.

I understand your point, but as soon as a region dies it is allowed to recreate it.

I wouldn't do anything you wouldn't, Steel.

I know Midnight was left to die when you moved offworld. I am creating it to revive it's glory, not taint it.

well...this complicates things...

however...

Midnight was never left to die...it was just transformed. I had always played space-tech...just not on my earth colony cause there would have been no-one to RP with - everyone was modern.

Then I will argue that point. What makes a region different than a nation, mods? Both are recognizable by their names.

Ok then, for anyone seeing the thread, the situation has been resolved between Crimmond and myself. However, next time it might not be between two friends. Why haven't the game mods or violet done something about this? It would only make sense.

Bump...may I at least have an answer?

It has to do with how the game was programmed.

For national resurrections to work, the data about that nation has to be retained when it's "deleted" (not a mod secret as this should be obvious to anyone who understands computers and how information is stored). When we Moderators "delete" a nation, what we're really doing is taking that nation off of the active nations list so that the game doesn't have to do any calculations with it at each daily update. If the national data were actually wiped clean from the server, then resurrecting nations would be impossible. Since players might leave NationStates for a long while and then come back much later, this would not be a good thing. Hence, provisions were made for reactivating "dead" nations.

No such provisions were ever made for regions (as far as I know). To the best of my knowledge, when a region is deleted, all data is wiped and the region file is actually deleted. This does not, however, prevent us from tracking down region-griefers (the reasons for which are Mod secrets and I will not elaborate).

Besides this, we need a mechanism for players to refound regions without Moderator assistance if they need a new Founder: Namely, get everyone to evacuate willingly, wait for the region to auto-delete, and then refound it.

Thank you for your response, Cog. I must ask though, is it something that could be worked on, something we'll have to live with, or ( ) something in NS2?
