Ha! The Nation-States universe is land with plenty of magistrates but no executive branch or independent source of appeal. The one way to get ahead is to pander to the powers that be -- the mods. I refuse to do this.

Yeh,and the citizens of Stalinist Russia had to learn how the ruling elite interpreted their power, to aviod being deleted too. Not to say many people didn't, and tha many didnt prosper under this tyranny. the world is full of .. sucks.

Apologies, to both of you. I let my emotions get the best of me.

Just as I said. We need new limits on the power of Mods. Or an effective oversight mechanism. Power expands to fill all available space. Without reform we will continue to have players pandering to whim of the unelected few that interpret the rules to this game. It is unhealthy. This game, lke the real-life game of Nation-states, is more interesting, and more rewarding, with less rules, fewer hard-lines. I am not alone in this conviction. Many players in this game are disturbed with the direction this game has headed over recent months.

Hrm... wee bit of extra digging in the mod centre turned up some former UN multies, one that was DEATed for griefing.

I am complaining about the rules, not individual players.

The original architect of this game made the rules.

I dont think the mods have too much power....
But I think that there needs to be a better sytsem of appeal, in such cases when the mod in question... may have acted rashly.
It doesnt happen very often....but it DOES happen.

Under the current system, you have only to appeal to the Admins, and they arent likely to take a gamers side over a mod's.

In fact, I wonder if ANY such appeal..was ever "overturned" as it were...

Appealing to the very same mods...who now have a bias againt you...isnt going to get you heard.

Those people who purposely get deated...do not apply to this case...
Nor, do those who were in open defiance of the rules.
The only cases I point to..are those where the Mod.....( rare as it is) may have acted rashly.

Some, yes. However, Max's rules did not envision certain styles of play - such as "region invading". As a result, the mods and admin have progressively established guidelines which demonstrate how regions can and cannot be invaded.
Likewise, under the original version of the game, the UN was not meant to be rife with multis and game mechanics proposals. We have, however, progressively developed new ways of enforcing the restrictions laid down in the original rules on both forms of behaviour.

And, having made that example, I'd like to report a highjacking. :?

This thread. It's rather amusing, someone started it out as a guide to helping mods, and then this other guy, um... something drivers, came in and started using it for his own objective.

I am just saying this so dont take offense but with so many rules and not much of a check system NS is begining to look alot less like a Nation Simulation game. Isnt that whats its supposed to be? I mean not all nations are nice and PC, some nations cause trouble and thats how nations are. Now dont get me wrong I completely agree that there must be a line but maybe that line has gone too far just maybe, and since I believe we all really like this game and want to keep it fun and in Character I believe that Maybe how ever small it may be is big enough for us to think at least about it.

Also I have read Jennifer Goverment and it seems that certain things in the book would be along the lines of stuff that would get you deleted in the game. I dont believe that should be so? Do you?

There is a huge difference between totalitarianism and paternalism.

Totalitarianism means only a narrow range of opinions can be expressed.

Paternalism, in this context, would suggest that all manner of opinions can be expressed, but one must be careful not to take some of them too far.

In any system so large, someone has to keep order.
