I'm extremely suprised to find that Kis has been deleted. In fact I find it quite surreal as he is one of the most laid back and non confrontational posters that you could meet. I certainly couldn't find the smoking gun that got him booted from NS so maybe a mod will be knid enough to tell me...

or maybe they won't. It certainly seems very odd though.

I pulled this from another thread. I'm sure I could find others. No cheers or snide comments, just suprise as though he spontaneously combusted. I have yet to see any evidence that Kis made a major infraction (or any, actually).

Apolgies for responding to this thread as it's marked for Mods only.. please feel free to ask me to retract.

Kis had been previously warned for flaming and was flaming in the thread in question. That said, the subsequent deletions were for being on teh IP ban list (as Death is a Right)... This really doesn't seem likely to me (unless he's a DAMN good actor!!)

I notice that the comments made by Steph on the thread have been deleted, does this mean the IP ban was a mistake?

Perhaps a Mod could re-check the ip address of this and re-confirm whether or not it's a banned ip?

It might be worth noting that Kis has been posting for quite a while and wasn't deleted after his first warning (when presumably an IP scan was performed)... he HAS said that he's moved ip address this week, could that be the problem?

When a player who could be categorized as "neautral/lawful" gets deleted, especially when there are many more flagrant flamers about, gets deleted or banned it has to make all the rest of us uneasy.

When will we unknowingly offend the powers that be?

He was deleted because of flaming moderators. He flamed me and even went as far as to call me "crazy" and some other words I can't recall. He said it about two other players as well. So, I went to the mod center to check the guy out.. in the same breath he then posted with a puppet responding to himself. You all know that's not ok to do. However, this all by it's self was not enough to get him deleted. Until I brought up his account. He had already been warned for not only flaming another mod but two of them. Add myself, that makes three. Three strikes and you're out. Those are the rules and it was no mistake. Then MD, the guy who started the thread did ask me to clean up the thread. We were also dealing with a spammer at the time. So.. I took out the offending posts with the deleted spammer posts and moved it to mod/admin where it sat till I deleted it. There is a little more to it.. but I have given you enough reason to justify his deletion.

For the record, it's just 8:30 AM here. I also have a newborn baby. So, I don't always see things as they get posted. I don't live on this computer.. as much as it may seem so some times.. ;)

I have seen many people have much worse flames, and get off with a warning or a deletion. Dont you think that an ip-ban/deat on sight, was completely unwarrented. The query is over the comments about him already being previously IP banned, which some of us are more than surprised about!

Well Kis, your current nation is still with us. And Stephistan has not even mentioned DEAT on sight, or IP ban, or Death Is a Right, in her explanation.

Ok, here's the deal. Don't ever say I'm nothing if not fair. I will bring back "Kisarazu Reborn " however, I stand by my first deletion. You earned it fair and square. However, Kisarazu Reborn was deleted on sight as you said and after thinking about it.. and since you seem to honestly appear to be sorry and didn't mean to offend (Although, that is what every one who get's deleted says) none the less.. you can have it back. Kisarazu could of come to me on his own and the exact same result would of happened. In case you haven't figured it out, Mods don't change their minds because of any pressure, they DO some times change their minds because it's fair to. Just so you know :P

Getting deleted and shot down on sight by a mod doesn't really invite to a fruitful Questions and Answers, does it? I imagine Kis felt both sad and lonely and as such his friends (if only by showing their support) may have helped him a lot more than you think. There is a human behind the deleted nation. Well I can't speak for all moderators, but I can say this much, it some times get's very frustrating having to deal with the amount of nonsense that some times goes on here. We do have to listen to a lot of crap that regular players can just ignore and or walk away from if they so wish. As mods we have a responsibility to take on every one's problems, that's what we agreed to when we became mods. So, I think it's understandable why some mods get short with people. I mean think about it.. Let's say you're at work.. your boss.. let's say is named [violet] has given you a task to do.. and you do it. Your boss is happy with your work. However let's say you have been put in charge of hiring and firing employees. There are actually people who do this for a living.. (some one has to do it) and every time you fire an employee for goofing up on the job, your office is over run by another group of employee's demanding to know why the guy that just walked out the door was fired. As if it's their business or some thing. Same thing here. So, is it really any wonder why moderators get so ticked at some players who do this? I don't think any of us have a problem explaining it once to the person who's business it is.. (however even that is silly given if they don't know why they were deleted that's pretty bad) But I don't mind. I do mind every one who isn't involved acting like they have sort of right to know. In reality they don't. We simply do it out of courtesy to begin with. We don't owe any one an explanation. So, some thing to think about next time you see a moderator get a little more then frustrated.

It was really nice to be defended by the people that I ofcourse would try to defend if I could.

Apologies for making you feel this way Steph, I think people (myself included) just wanted to speak out because we honestly felt a mistake had been made, not because we felt we had some right to know why Kiz was deleted.
Everyone makes mistakes (even Mods) and no-one's mad about it, because it got fixed in the end (mistake or not, it's irrelevant, because the right thing was done.)

I suspect a lot of the problems faced by Mods in the way you describe is because of trust and respect. Players jump up and down on a decision because they don't trust the Mod making it to have done a right or fair thing. Tempers flare because they don't respect who they're talking to, or the fact that the Mods are just volunteers.
Correcting problems like this quickly (as you did), I feel goes a long way to creating respect and trust in/for Mods.

When mods get short on people, it sets an example others will follow. If the unpayed job is getting too frustrating, well, take a break or resign.

I can't really believe what I'm reading here. It is their business if only because they worked with the guy and of course they will want to know why he/she was fired. Sacking people without giving any reason at all will create a reaction amonst the former collegues. Some might be happy, others pissed. Some even resign.

This is a game and you are neither employed to delete nor to find new players. Moving along your analogy, yes, you have the ability to delete people and even to ban people at your own will, but that is surely your last options in order to keep the order? And what is so bad with telling the rest of the community the reason behind a player's deletion when they ask about it?

In reality people do want to know what happened to their friends/family/etc. In fact, not knowing why someone you know got deleted becomes a problem.

People will begin to show trust and respect, and I suspect the level of complaint and distress will go down, when they see candor and openness as a predictable part of moderation.

Ah, why do I bother. What a complete waste of time and effort on my part. First of all. I said we do explain to the person who got deleted if they really claim to be unaware of why they were deleted. How this makes it any other players business is beyond me! It's not. If you really want to know why your friend/player has been deleted, why don't people read the thread that goes on between the moderator and the person who got deleted without butting in where it doesn't belong! Or better yet, if this person is your friend.. ask THEM why they were deleted. The only people we're accountable to is to Max, [violet] the other mods and ourselves.

This is Max Barry's game. The rules are spelled out in two different areas I can think of for players to read. You have to read and agree to them before your registered to even play. So, saying you don't know the rules is the lamest thing ever! It's the players responsibility to KNOW the rules. Not the moderators to tell them. Only to enforce them.

The fact is, Max and [violet] trust us. It's Max's game. We are accountable to them, not you. This isn't a democracy.. deal with it. You don't like the way moderation is handled, no one is keeping a gun to your head to stay.
