UN proposals wiped for no reason!

The server ate my proposal

Rights and Duties of UN States had at least 105 Approvals last night, glowing reports here in the forums, and not a hint of Game Mechanics problems, but I arrived this moring to find that 8 proposals who were due to expire on Feb 7, 2004 were gone without a trace!

I had carefully lobbied for this proposal, telegramming appropriate delegates and keeping folks informed via the Forums, and was hoping to see this proposal make quorum by update time tonight. It would have, too.

Instead, I spent 45 minutes of frustrating server lag just trying to connect to my nation, not even the forums, only to find that mine and seven others that were also scheduled for tonight were gone. I didn't even have the chance to capture the name of my supporters.

I know Enodia didn't do a UN sweep, as he is involved in local elections for at least the next 24 hours. There are still TONS of inappropriate and mis-categorized proposals out there, so I doubt anyone else did a sweep either.

I'd really appreciate an explanation if anyone knows how this happened. I'm EXTREMELY frustrated!

I would be surprised if the server ate your proposal, are you sure Enodia didn't delete it? :?

Matthuis, you've commented on this same proposal. Your UN puppet, Ex Brixton Rude Boys, has endorsed this proposal twice. Enodia has seen it run through the list twice and didn't bother it before when it simply failed to meet quorum. It's been discussed in the Forums for at least a month, and NO ONE has ever raised a game mechanics or inappropriate proposal question about it. Here's a link to the text (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=121212) if you want a reminder.

I saw Enodia online yeterday and telegrammed him, asking if he had plans to do a sweep. Frankly, I was hoping to move up a page by having two duplicated proposals ahead of me removed. He replied that he was busy with RL elections, and woudn't be looking in for at least 24 hours. I'd say I'm pretty darn sure Enodia didn't kill it.

I suspect it had to do with update timing or possibly a server glitch. Given that the seven preceeding topics were also wiped out, and at least five of them were perfectly legal (albeit in no danger of passing), I don't think it was intentionally removed.

UN proposals are auto-deleted every 12 hours, at both the daily minor and daily major updates. The deadline time as shown on the proposal does not distinguish between the minor update and major updates, but the deadline time as stored internally by the game server does make this distinction. Hence, some proposals were set to expire on the morning of Feb 7, while some others were set to expire on the evening of Feb 7.

Your proposal was auto-deleted in the morning batch. It was not deleted by a Moderator.

Cog, the proposal directly behind mine was left intact. Mine was posted at about 8:14 server time on Wednesday, and the next one appeared about 10 minutes later. Mine never made it beyond Page 8 of the server view, despite having only 7 topics ahead of it.

If what you're saying is true, then the datestamp on the proposal has nothing to do with which update it belongs to. There was no real opportunity for US-based delegates to vote on the final day listed.

I was having a discussion in a couple of regional forums, making my case for their delegate to endorse it. Based on the date, I thought I had at least part of the day to make my case. That's not how it happened, though.

I've posted in Technical for a clarification on update timing. I very specifically waited until I saw the previous day's proposals expiring before posting mine. Had I waited another 10 minutes, I'd have gotten 4 days of exposure and the front page on Saturday. As it is, based on what I saw, I got screwed.

Right i just had to ask whether you were sure whether Enodia hadn't deleted it,

Wait a minute, this isn't making sense....

The proposal list shows 5 proposals per page. If a proposal is somewhere on page 8, then there are 35 proposals ahead of it, not 7.

Could you clarify your statement, please?

...

By the way, I checked the log of Moderator actions; there have been no recent Moderator-deletions of UN proposals. This is definitely a technical problem.

Poorly stated on my part.

There were 7 proposals dated Feb 7 ahead of me. There are two queued proposals taking up two slots on Page 1. The other 26 were presumably dated Feb 6. (this assumes I was at the top of page 8 - the actual numbers may have been up to 4 higher.)

Directly behind me was Agency for Gun Control, entered moments after mine, which is currently in the third slot of page 1 after the 2 queued issues. There are another 20+ proposals dated for closure on Feb 7 after that.

My question/argument is that those proposals dated for closure on Feb 7 should have been available for vote on Feb 7. Technically, I suppose you could make the case that they were available, since the update runs in the wee hours of the US morning. I was just under the impression that Feb 7 meant ALL DAY Feb 7, and not first thing in the morning.

...

I never thought any mods would have deleted it. Heck, Tactical Grace was one of my first endorsers. But Sal told me it was a Moderation issue and locked my topic there, so here I am. I know the proposal is a write-off. It's the server lag and scheduling that's bugging me. I just don't want another carefully planned endorsement campaign shot to hell because I mis-timed the server by ten minutes.
