Is this thread (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=119379) flamebait/flame.

I think they very title of the thread is flame, especially if you are of that religion. However, it isn't my opinion that matters, but rather the moids. So, I have raised this quetsion with you.

Thanks for your time.

Good old Camdean; if it's not the Jews, it's the Pope.

If he had posted that topic and not posted in it again, I might suspect him of trolling. However, it looks like he's trying to debate a politically-controversial topic. Thus, moderator action will not be taken.

I should note that I have only very briefly glanced over the topic and didn't notice anything on a first sweep. If I missed posts where players are directly insulting other players, please let me know (and quote specific examples).

I also note that I am a Catholic, and my advice to other Catholics is: Don't let this get to you. Debate him or ignore him.

"Think about it for a moment."

Thankyou for taking the time to look at this thread, but you can't have looked that well. The title istelf is flamebait - and that is what I'm getting at.

My understanding is that the Pope is a famous figure, and insulting him (or any other famous figure for that matter) would not be considered a flame against you.

Just my thoughts on the matter. Although crude, he doesn't seem to be doing something that would require moderator intervention.

He is actually debating the topic and not flaming or flame-baiting.

The title?

/me goes to take a look at the title.

Ehhh.... I'm inclined to think of flamebait as comments about players, while trolling consists of comments about non-players. Thus, such comments about the Pope would be more trolling than flamebait (unless His Holiness plays NationStates).

Like Merric said, he's crude about it, but he seems to be making an attempt to respond to points raised against his arguments (such as they are).

It's possible that (even being a Catholic, myself) I don't find this offensive because I'm having trouble taking him seriously. Thus, I'll reiterate my earlier advice and suggest that you not take it seriously, either.

I'll give the topic another look, later, and I'll let you know then. Until then, I'm inclined to leave it open as long as no players start flaming each other.

Sorry?! What are you going on about? The insults were not directed at me...rather the leader of my faith.

Personally, I think if this is considered flamebait/trolling, then probably all those "George W. is a (insert derogatory remark here)" should be as well. He may not be the leader of faith, but he is the leader of my country.

Anyway, I'm catholic too, and I do find it kind of funny, not insulting. Oh well.

I see what you mean.

Thanks anway, Cog, for taking the time to deal with this. You might as well lock it now.

Another possible way of looking at it is that in a forum like General, threads need borderline-inflammatory titles if they want debate to be generated.

That said, thread now locked to prevent anyone from leaping from tree to tree in a willful display of argumentation.
