Curious - how many people in NS have ever moderated ANY BBs?

My reason for asking is in reading this forum it seems painfully clear that most people do not understand what a TOS is all about, let alone what moderation entails. It is NOT a "fun" job to play babysitter and hall monitor over people, at least some portion of which you will never please because of the board's constructs (which include game programming).

Considering the raw numbers hit on this board (which, BTW, are incredible) the moderators are doing one hell of a job -- not even sure how they manage it.

I realize my voice is a small one, but after having worked at MSNBCi for three years, I applaud your efforts and wanted to say thank you.

amen to that. It's really hard not to hold on to the nasty email you get even if you KNOW it's BS... while I loved working from home, sometimes I wanted a big, candy like button that said BAN BAN BAN

oops... never mind, we had that sort of.

Yeah, I mod a place with about 500 users. It's no where near this scale, and it's still such a nightmare that I've seriously considered leaving, several times.

I've never thought that the mods don't do a great job, though, and like some of them very, very much.

I mod/admin a site that gets about 50,000 daily hits (though the forums are MUCH smaller). We thin the herd a lot more on the front side, and membership is limited to 18+, which helps a LOT.

I've been impressed by the moderation in the short time I've been here. Nice job, guys and gals.

Most of the forums I mod/admin are NS faction pages, so they're all smaller than this one.

I've moderated a few small forums, but nothing to the scale of NS. Even with a few hundred people, it's a tough job, but someday's got to do it.

The NS moderators do what they can, and I applaud their efforts.

I, too, have modded a small board. It ain't easy, so kudos to our mods, who are as even-handed and fair as can possibly be expected.

I Mod/Admin several forums related to the Granturismo video game, one of them with over 12,000 members.

A new Mod at one of those forums recently posted in the backchannel Mod forum that he thought "banning" and "censoring" activities ruined the "vibe" at the forum.

I told him, "That's the razor's edge of Adminning...no matter how hard you try to be fair, eventually there will be those that consider Admin/Mods to be self serving and fascist...

The good news is that those who end up hollering the most are likely to be the undesirables that need eventual culling out."

Modding/Adminning is often a thankless job, considering the amount of time it takes, the number of threads/posts that must be reviewed (not fun on 56k) and the backlash from unpopular decisions that must sometimes be made.

That being said, the Mods/Admins here are doing a very admirable job. http://members.dcsi.net.au/makeitso/smiles/applaus.gif

I am a mod on my regional forum (invisionfree site). That, in itself, is quite frustrating especially when you have nations that are out to just plain annoy you.

Yes, I've modded or had admin status on several forums now. NS-related forum tend to be the most stressful, at least for me anyway. Especially when you just make a new ADN forum and have to decide what access every individual person has, besides resolving issues. I'm currently moderating only three (with Admin at all three), and have lately completely understood the occasional NS Mod tendency to want to scream "WE HAVE RLs TOO YOU KNOW!"
