I have a puppet nation which I want deleted. I keep logging into it, and turned off auto log in, so it cant get deleted from inactivity. Its name is Slow Silver.

Hmm, I don't think that the mods do this sort of thing anymore. You should let it die through inactivity.

I know but every time I log in it goes to Slow Silver first, so Ill have to not play for 28 days. I guess I could go into a random forum and insult someone, but I dont think that would be good.

You could deactivate auto-login.

Did that, maybe Ill have to look through my computer to see if I can find the cookie.

Switch auto login off and then click 'update settings'. You'd be amazed how many people forget that. After that you can scramble the password to avoid temptation.

You could try deleting your cookies too, if that doesn't work.

Didnt work, and I have no idea what it would be called, as a cookie.

If you want I could sign in as Slow Silver and then a mod could delete it.

Check your browser preferences. There may be options in there to clear the cache and delete all cookies.

We won't delete your nation just like that. Inactivity's the best way (and may God protect you should you try to commit suicide by mod as the results would be very dire.)

If you use Internet Explorer click Tools -> Internet Options the click Delete Cookies. While you're there, click Delete Files to clean out the stored pages and click Clear History while you're at it.

Im not the only one using this computer, so clearing all the cookies would probably be a bad idea.

I guess you wont see me for 28 days, or 30 to be safe. Dont want to sign in an hour before it dies of inactivity.

Just telegram me the password. I will change it and take it off of your hands. That way it is not a concern of yours anymore. I will just move it to my region.

That's a real bummer... do try the changing settings and clicking 'update settings' from the nation you want to keep, and do it a few times. I had your problem once and it took it a few goes to catch, as it were. Also once you're in your main nation click some random link to the forums to ensure you're logged on there in your main nation's name.

Note: I don't know how much of this you already know, but at the risk of insulting your computer-intelligence, I put in step-by-step instructions just in case.

Do you log onto your computer using your own name or is it shared? If you're using Windows NT, 2000, or XP deleting cookies should only delete the ones for your profile (login name). I think that may be true in Windows 98 too.

To delete only the Nationstates cookie, open Tools -> Internet Options and click Settings... then View Files. Right-click an empty part of the folder and click View -> Details. Right click again and click Arrange Icons By -> Internet Address.

Up at the top of the list (or the bottom if they are sorted anti-alphabeticly, if this is the case arrange the icons by internet address again), you should see some files that are called something like: Cookie:chris@www.cnn.. Under the Internet Address heading it says something like Cookie:chris@www.cnn.com. Note that instead of 'Chris', you will see the name you log on to your computer with. Look down the list until you find the file Cookie:chris@www.nationstates. Delete it. Check the Internet Address column to see if there are any more cookies from NationStates and delete them too. Open Internet Explorer and go to the NationStates site and try again.

I better way, if you don't want to delete cookies, is to log on as one of your other nations. Once you're on, go into the settings and click on auto log on and then click update settings. You should now auto log on to this nation.

Log onto your puppet, turn auto login off, then log into your main nation. Click settings, then click no on autologin, then yes, then update settings.

[code:1:9a1f1dfa03]site: www.nationstates.net
cookie name: autologin

Name: autologin
Content:nation_name%<random string; probably a password hash>
Domain: .www.nationstates.net
Path: /cgi-bin/
Server Secure: no
Expires: <random date>
Policy:
[/code:1:9a1f1dfa03]

While this is from Mozilla, you get the general idea. Find something that looks like that (not sure where it is under IE, but probably under Tools, and Manage Stored Cookies) and delete just it. That solves the autologin problems.

The two types of cookies that Nationstates uses are:

"profile user name"@cgi-bin
"profile user name"@www.nationstates

Note: "profile user name" is whatever you sign on the computer with.

Both of these are used for UN nations, but only the first for non-UN nations. On my set-up, they are found in C:\Windows\Cookies and C:\Windows\Temporary Internet Files if this helps any?

If you had control of the computer (no other user), then delete the cookies, files, history and all offline content from your Internet Properties folder, but unfortunately, you cannot do this.
