Another mod has just taken care of this. However, keep in mind that all future reports like this should go to the Getting Help (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/page=help) page, as this must be handled by a Game Moderator. Thank you.

Hehe, it was handled by a Game Moderator..lol ME!

But seriously, Cog is right. The moderation forum is for forum issues. If you have a game issue it should be sent to the getting help section. ;)

Ok, just for clarification, because I'm feeling a little dense....

You (as in the Mods) don't want players to report swastika flags in the moderation forums. Instead, you want us to file a report in the getting Getting Help (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/page=help) page.

*feels that this is a slow and round about way of dealing with it.....shrug*

Censorship is Evil!

What can't I post?
Any content that is:

obscene
illegal
threatening
malicious
defamatory
spam

I hope the rule against politically/historically "obscene" flags is applied to those baring Communist symbolism, as I find the deaths of 100 million people (http://www.hup.harvard.edu/catalog/COUBLA.html) obscene.

Is my Islamo-fascist flag verboten as well? :(

Some of my own relatives "disappeared" in East Prussia (formerly part of Germany) once the Soviets took over. No, I don't know for sure if the Communists killed them or sent them to a gulag or not, they could have all eaten daisies and died, but we're pretty sure they were just a few stats of Stalins mass murders (they being, unfortunately, staunch fascists).

As the swastika "represents" the Holocaust and is deeply offensive to millions of people, the red flag of the Soviets "represents" another holocaust and is deeply offensive to millions of people.

Personally I do not support banning either the swastika OR the Soviet flags, but if you ARE going to ban one, oughtn't the other be banned for sake of the same arguement?

No offence to anyone's relatives (and before anyone starts screaming "intolerant" at me, I had relatives on both sides of the Iron Curtain and on at least one side in WW2, so I'm not insensitive to any holocausts in that part of the world), but this particular dead horse has been flogged on numerous occasions by people from all sides of the argument. There's obviously a depth of feeling on the side of those whose relatives were "holocausted" by the Soviets, but the decision has been made and [violet] has made it very clear that it won't be overturned anytime soon.
That's part of the reason why we want you to make the report via Getting Help. It prevents more of this sort of thing appearing.

Those arguments have been made before, and the fact of the matter is this is the one time where the "Cause Max Sez So" rule applies.

Hey. I hope my Great Zhongguo flag isn't forbidden. It's based on the Nazi German Reichkriegsflagge.

Agreed.

But..I have to ask...

Why is it that certain individuals are allowed to post entire threads devoted to revising holocaust history?

They never seem to do a good job of it, thanks in part to a few nations, like myself who enjoy proving them wrong..
but....

In all fairness.....why is one allowed, and not the other?

They both tend to deeply offend many individuals.
Shouldnt the edict apply to both, based on "cause Max says so" rule?

I'm obviously not Max, but I would suggest that the difference would fall somewhere along the following:

If I create a nation called "Holocaust Never Happened Land", then the only way that the name can be "changed" is via the deletion of the nation. In the same way, mods can change region names, mottos and currencies as well as delete flags.
If I post a thread in "General" saying "did you know that the Holocaust never happened?", then I'm clearly setting myself up to be debated. Most notably by you, Backwoods, and some others.

I hope this makes sense, I don't think it's explaining very well. What I'm trying to say is that Nation details can't be rebutted as effectively (if at all) as ignorant forum posts can.

I brought this up previously in this thread about three weeks ago under "General Forum Concern" or something like that. The main point was that it is a very contentious issue that rests upon constitutionally guaranteed Freedom of Speech in America and law on the internet. It wasn't resolved per say but there was an agreement to end the conversation in the interests of the forum.

Do a search for my nations name in Moderation and you will get the jist of the issue (ignore the nation that kept posting irrelavent conversation). TG me if you have any questions as I have agreed not to discuss it on the forum.

I agree Enodia.
Im simply wondering if the logic of banning a swastika due to its WW2 signifigance, while allowing anyone to post that kind of drivel, is basically the same thing.

Makes ya wonder.....

That's a very nice flag you got there. The Iron Cross looks out of proportion though.
