There are definitely some very nice, very responsible mods. Unfortunately, as I've been digging through the threads for the last few days, I've seen some rather blatant examples of some mods abusing their positions for ideological or personal reasons. If it weren't for the fact that my political views seem to align with many of the mods', I'd be afraid of posting anywhere on NationStates at all. I cast the lone "no" vote, simply because I think it needs to be said that not all are happy with all of the moderators. In truth, I like most of them.

I've already stuck my neck out far enough. I'd like to preserve my participation and the "work" I've put into my nation, and don't trust the moderators in question not to retaliate.

That's the biggest problem here, really. This misperception that we go around deleting anyone who disagrees with what we say.

We delete people for rules violations, not for disagreeing with us. Just ask Ackbar. He's probably raised more complaints than any other player, and he hasn't been deleted.

Of course, Ackbar doesnt just bitch. He honestly brings up issues he feels need to be dealt with, and if he has a problem, he doesnt just make random, seemingly general accusations - he'll post links, show evidence, etc.

Some people think you know where we live

I'll settle for the Mods are generally well meaning and fair and only occasionally obliterate careless players. If it wasn't for them we'd be living like animals etcetera.

I thought that after evility and francos spain they were the most hated people on NationStates, guess i was wrong

My guess is that most people are too cowardly. I mean, flaming on the forums might not be noticed, directly flaming a mod via telegram is likely a good way to get yourself wasted.

Good point but they could make puppets to attack the mods...

To be perfectly honest.....I think most of the mods here are good people.
But...there are a few who I think..take their "jobs" way too seriously.
I myself am a moderator on another forum and to me..it isnt really a big deal.
Some....very few actually ...will not listen to reason.
They do not allow anyone to plead thier case, believing that they never act rashly.

But...that being said.....I dont believe even one mod in this forum has ever done anything they felt, at the time, was uneeded.
They make mistakes like anyone else.....
although , again..to be honest..i feel sometimes they do bring down the hammer....when a simple slap on the wrist would suffice.

This does not apply to those who who jump into the forums to post innapropriate material.
They deserve it.

Mods as mods...I count as the lesser of two evils.

There is the occasional hate-thread on this forum when some flamer thinks they should exist outside of the rules.

Mods can see who owns which puppet so if the flames get hot enough both puppet and master get bombed

I have has some hate mail about my moderation. And I have had hate mail about my game playing. Mostly I ignore it. Indeed, there is now a handy Ignore feature. On a few occasions, nations have paid the ultimate price, but that was under the regular spamming/flaming rules. On the whole, I only get bothered when legitimate stuff starts getting pushed off the stack.

IP scans, plus other secret methods.

All of my puppets have my e-mail address on them, but I suppose if you were trying to mask your identity you wouldn't do that....
04-01-2004, 09:20
yeah and they could track user and game-play patterns

Lets just say:

The Moderators have their methods of interpreting data to determine the puppet and it's master. Attempts to defy these methods are useless.
