I have a question here for the Mods, though it is also partly an statement of opinion on this issue.
Recently, I have been in multiple regions that have been hit by what I will call "reccuring spammers". These are nations that either slightly change their names, or add a numeric to the name, etc. They are nothing but a griefing problem.
Due to this, deleting their nations doesn't seem an appropriate defense, and regional password protection is, although useful, restrictive to the flow of otherwise harmless nations into and out of a region, and for those regions that are trying to grow, this is quite detrimental.
Now, you may have read the case of the North American spammer, Google/Gaggle/etc Eyes. This is a case where deleting his nation does not appear to do anything, yet, as a region that is always growing, it would be restrictive to password protect and attempt to thereby curtail any further spamming by said nation.
Thereby, I'm wondering as to whether there is a system in place for the IP banning of these reccuring menaces, or whether said banning is to take place on a case by case basis. Because, although the problem is usually resolved after a few incidents, I feel it might be something that could be dealt with quicker.
This brings me to a second point, the question of reccuring spammers with wholy different names, and reccuring griefers/invaders. Both of these occurances have also appeared in various regions that I have inhabited. In the case of the reoccuring spammers whose names change, they can usually be recognized by writing style, or lack thereof, and/or the topics in their spam. As such, again the use of an IP ban would in my mind be a legitimate defense, but again, it is the moderation team's decision.
Finally, the case of the reccuring invaders comes to hand. Now although this issue has been partially alleviated due to the fact it was such a major problem a few months ago, when regions where being crashed regularly, and quite maliciously. Yet it still happens today that various nations with grudges gather nations, invade, and grief, ban, etc. Although these nations sometimes have recurring names, many also change them on a regular basis. Normally these nations can be detected from the fact they use the same home region, or one that is very similiar, and nations within that region have similar names to older invaders. I have yet to see a group of invaders so smart as to completely change names and regions every time they decide to come back.
So I ask you Moderaters, how much of a defense does NS currently have against these recurring problems, and what if anything can the general populace do to help?
