Moderation During the Holidays (Assembly line type system)

I was at a Christmas Party today, and in my several computerless hours began contempleting the meaning of NS. . .

No seriously, what I was thinking about were a couple of things:

1. Large numers of mods are going to be away, or modding sporadically Christmas Eve and Day, New Year's Eve and Day, and Boxing Dday.

2. Clearly the rulebreakers are not going to be getting better during the holidays. They seem to be getting worse even now and in the holidays, they will likely belive that they have a free reign.

3. Many of us players have too much time, and the mods have very little time between looking for trouble, and dealing with it (even though we do report it when we see it)

So what about having a sort of assembly line structure:

1. A thread is created in moderation.

2. Mods and players who are willing to help sign in (and when possible out on the thread).

3. Each mod takes on a specific task or set of tasks (in that case they would do each task in the set for about an hour, unless it is really urgent). The only thing tat they do is deal with the tasks at hand.

4. Each player takes on a set of places to search out trouble, and makes sure to check every couple of minutes. Mentioned on the sign-in.

5. Another thread is created for each major type of illegal action (forum spaming, in-game spamming, obscene images, trolling, message board griefing, miscellaneous, other) and one for minor actions, or those which can be sorted out at a later date, for periods in which there might be a lull (region griefing, flamebaiting, flaming)

How does this sound? Plausible, plausible but a bad idea, or implausible?

Suggestions?

In particular I am looking for mod responses (although this is not a "mods only" thread, it is an "on-topic only" thread).

I think it sounds alright. I am willing to help if help is needed. I am going to be on during the holidays, so I would be able to help out.

Sorry, I know you only want mod answers, but I couldn't resist posting.

Isn't this what we do all the time, but without the sign ins? We (The people watching out for trouble/the group of people always in the mod and tech forum) post a problem in the Mod forum, the mods address it, and we move on.

I don't see how this is any diffrent then normal bussiness. :?

(Please correct me if I'm wrong, I've been really off all day... :( )

No, I said I don't mind non-mod answers as long as they stay on topic.

And I'm talking about highly organized (and potentially a bit stressful), coordinated efforts to be able to help the moderators deal more quickly than they normally would be with both mods and Nuts & Bolts Players at best going to be in sporadically during much of this time with the more immediat problems.

Currently they do searches themselves, we generally merely report what we stumble across, and they have to look through many threads, never knowing wheether there will be more reports added to one thread or not.

This would organize and concentrate everybody's effeorts for the time that we are on into fighting rulebreakers.

So then the mods are going to give us orders on what...or rather where to search for stuff, and anything we find we report back to the HQ thread?

That sounds a bit more organized then what we normally do. I'll be able to help, mostly during these hours, as that's when I'm normally on. Even with the holidays, I have work to do. (Damn you home school...)

But I will, or course, support this in any way I can.

Not so much the mods as demand (ie, whatever needs to be done, although I suppose that the mods would have to actually give the orders).

I would be able to elp sporadically, and the from the 26th until a few days after, likely not at all as I will be up in ME, then( I think) I will be able to help for New Year's, and thereafter.

There shouldn't be too much trouble really. Anyone who spends their Christmas spamming online games is losing out more than anyone really.

It's my birthday on the 4th o' January so my times on will be pretty strained with preparation for da PARTY!!

Report any flame, spam etc. to the Moderation forum and we'll deal with it in due time. :)

Perhaps General should be locked from the 24th to the 27th?
That way, the few mods that are available don't have to worry about zapping flamers and spammers in General, and can focus on keeping the game itself running smoothly.
Either that, or appoint some new forum mods. :P

Nah, it'd be way better to just let em tear up general. Otherwise, they'd screw up all the rest of the forums...

This is why a flaming forum would be nice. Keep the flamers out of General. Curse our bandwith and server's unstabilty. :x

Well, in all honesty, it wasn't a bad idea. However, as [violet] urged the mods in the M/A forum, we're just gonna take it easy, and log on if we've got nothing better to do.

The forums survived for months without mods, they'll survive a week or so. Now, if it was a random point in the year and several mod vacations all lined up, that'd be one thing, but, then again, we usually don't announce that sort of thing

So, yeah, good idea, just not needed right now. Thanks anyway :)
